Is Saihate Station devoid of meaning? Not exactly, but it feels more to me like baby’s first Silent Hill/OMORI as opposed to something that makes you reflect on it’s own merit. I truthfully can’t understand it’s heavy praise on Steam, which is a real shame.

What little lore we get, like Tatsunami being horribly abused, isn’t examined very far. So much is so heavily telegraphed too, like Tatsunami is acting blatantly suspicious and makes “under his breath” comments that spoil the plot and his true nature.

Like… it comes to a point lmao. Again, art is beautiful and generally pretty visually distinct from OMORI’s, but that’s really where the positives end. The VN is extremely simplistic, with “nice to Tatsunami” and “mean to Tatsunami” basically being your choices.

The endings are suicide (by stabbing yourself in the stomach by selecting the knife from the inventory and using it on yourself), group suicide, forget reality and live in the delusion, and accept the truth. Seriously??

One of the red tickets closely resembles the sheet music corridor. Tatsunami even blacks out his family photo the same way the Sunny family portrait gets scribbled out/the way Sunny scribbles Mari's face out of Basil’s photo album.

The beach is an important place. The framing of Aoi's murder in the flower field and the barrel bag is almost identical to the framing of Mari's hanging and the photo album. The love interest has an evil shadow version that follows you throughout the game.

Flowers and flower language are important in both. There’s a mirror where the dead sister shows up behind you. The windows shine bright red when something bad happens. Haru and Sunny have the same deadpan stare, Tatsunami and Stranger have the same scary face.

The grief and guilt causes the black haired one to spiral and create a world inside his head that’s disturbing and trying to prevent him from learning the truth. There’s toxic codependent romantic/sexual tension between the two leads.

When you look at the plot, it’s OMORI without the sauce. Clinically depressed black haired man with his overly cheerful white haired friend, a girl important to both (and the older sister of one) is murdered by the pair and it gets covered up.

Saihate Station fails to achieve this kind of fresh take. Our protagonists are mid-20s office workers, they experience The Horrors, have conversations that lack depth, neither character expresses complex motivations for their actions, everything is flat.

OMORI used it’s turn-based combat system to create depth and contrast between Headspace and the Real World. It was meaningful in it’s depiction of toxic positivity, teenage suicidal ideation, and maladaptive daydreaming. It delved into codependency.

The game is so worryingly similar to OMORI in story, style and presentation that it borders on plagiarism. We’ve seen OMORI-esque “haunting the narrative” and “disturbing world of one’s own creation” stories plenty of times before, but OMORI kept it fresh.

The greatest problem Saihate Station has is it’s lack of creativity. Artistically, it’s pretty damn great, the full CGs are amazing, I love the artstyle itself, Haru and Tatsunami are expressive, and the world is creepy enough. But that’s all the creativity it has.

First of all: it’s FREE so that immediately means it is at LEAST highly accessible. Saihate Station is inoffensive, but equally as unremarkable. We’ve seen this story a thousand times, and it fails to deliver anything unique to capture the audience.

It’s just a case of this was probably the most hyped tv show in years, and Traitors is usually great, but the hierarchy and general English celebrity pretentiousness soured the season through sheer boredom. S2's greenlit, so I hope we get more interesting characters.

The finale was a GAG Alan’s reaction to winning, Nick and David’s reaction to him winning, Nick essentially being on the fucking floor, the money going to an amazing charity, the final bumped the score up a point for sure, it was one of the best I think.

The challenges overall were good adaptations of ones we’ve seen before. Like this was a fun version of the heist, the banshee well was a good tune copy game, the chain ring was great with them all screeching, and the trivia game was great.

Nick was a blessing, loved him on screen. Celia was cute, Lucy bless her didn’t ever have a clue and every single time I looked at her all I could see was Tilly from Miranda, David joins the “was literally never once right and got to the finals anyway” club.

Had Alan Carr been a normal person on a normal season he'd have been voted out unanimously within 3 minutes of the first table lmao. But because he’s Alan Carr, he got away with SO much shit. I almost applaud it, because playing into his character is a real strategy.

Cat played a decent enough game for the majority of her run, but unfortunately she put herself in a position where she was the only woman at the end. With only Jonathon Ross out, it was very clear there would be a woman Traitor, so she was banished.

Those two people being Joe Marler, WHO HAD THE SHIELD, and Celia, another very dear friend to Alan. So he borderline had no choice but to kill her that night. It’s ridiculous. Why give them two rigged murders in plain sight challenges, where is the fun.

They do it AGAIN later on when someone has to say a Shakespeare quote and clink glasses at a dinner party. Again, only makes sense for Alan to do this because Cat would never. And then he’s sat on the end of the table, with only 2 people in reach.

Production for whatever reason all but murdered Paloma themselves in episode 1. There was no way in the slightest for her to escape that, it was far and away the easiest kill Alan could go for. It was so unfair to her and to him. It’s not even the last riggory!

The first murder was all but GUARANTEED to have Alan do it because the only one who COULD touch someone’s face is a flamboyant gay man. And even then, the only person he could touch was a woman. A woman he was already close to. Oh, hi Paloma.

Speaking of pre-game friendships, the riggor moris of the first kill. Gee, I wonder who would be able to touch another celebrity on the face without it being taken weird or creepy – the big frat boy energy man, the quiet masc black woman, or Alan fucking Carr.
