In a few days, lawmakers have to finalize our budget in WA state. Will they furlough workers, cut teacher pay, and delay childcare programs? Or will they finally make the wealthy few pay what they owe?

NEW: Washington Senate Democrats propose a 55% cut to abortion access in their budget. Guess Dems would rather help Trump's forcible birth plot than tax the rich! Call your state reps today and ask them to fund reproductive justice. www.theburnerseattle.com/post/washing...
Washington Democrats Propose 55% Cut To Abortion Access Funds Amid National Attack On Reproductive Justice
Senate Democrats quietly proposed a shameful 55% cut to abortion access funding in their budget, leaving just $7 million for the 2026–2027 biennium to cover a critical healthcare service in a state th...

Good stuff from @hannahkrieg.bsky.social here - Dems in #waleg should absolutely proceed with a wealth tax, and go the referendum route to bypass Ferguson. The big corporations will fight back no matter what. But they’ll also lose. Poll after poll after poll shows the public wants to tax the rich.

I'm sorry, @governorferguson.bsky.social, this is just unacceptable. You're not providing any leadership here in a moment where bold and strong leadership is urgently needed. You offer only criticisms without solutions. If you won't lead, step aside for someone who will.

100% agree with this. No one thinks the solutions on offer in #waleg are ideal, but isn’t your job as governor to, I don’t know, lead? Provide a strategic vision? Set the agenda?

im so embarrassed to live in a state with a dem trifecta that can't pass a wealth tax in the session after an election showed MASSIVE support for taxing the rich

it is unfathomable that the governor sees instability at the federal level and chooses state level cuts instead.

we could've had a wealth tax and protected our state from trump, but instead we will pass a budget that cuts life-saving services and spares billionaires from paying taxes #waleg

Despite myths pedalled by some in Olympia, the solution to our revenue shortfall is clear: make the wealthy few pay what they owe in taxes.

They're already paying much less than elsewhere, it's time #WALeg fixed that. Read more by @budget-policy.bsky.social: budgetandpolicy.org/state-budget...

Today, Governor Bob Ferguson announced a slate of cuts (including to food banks!) that will exacerbate an affordability crisis and save us pennies compared to our colossal revenue shortfall. We've had real solutions to these problems for years, and now it's time to start listening.

one of the things that makes me the most mad about the ferguson press conference is that im sure there are legitimate examples of unnecessary gov't spending, but they are a drop in the bucket compared to the cuts he's proposing to vital services
February 28, 2025 at 7:06 PM
something we need to talk about is that #waleg could easily tax our way out of this budget deficit - even 10% compliance on a wealth tax would generate $15B in revenue in 4 years

Working people in Washington shouldn't have to face losing their health care, their kid's school, or the assistance that helps them make ends meet.

That's why we're demanding #WALeg lawmakers raise progressive revenue by making the wealthy pay what they owe in taxes, NOT by cutting services:
Stop the catastrophic cuts to Washington families
Our services, like schools and childcare, are in danger of sweeping cuts in the next budget. Join us to demand our lawmakers in Olympia take a different approach to the funding shortfall by rejecting…
