「現代のピアノ演奏の多くは、デジタル時代の明瞭さ、透明性、完璧さへの執着に強く影響されていると感じます。最もソフトに演奏できるかを競うのではなく、多くの演奏が過剰な表現、速すぎる、クリアすぎる、コントロールしすぎた結果として、逆に過剰に聞こえてしまうのです。音符が存在するか存在しないかだけが重視され、音と音の間に想像されるものの余地はほとんどありません。こうして暗さや曖昧さを避けることが、音を平板にさせているのです。これは技巧的な話に聞こえるかもしれませんが、私にとってこれは「音に耳を傾けることに忠実であり続けたい」という哲学的な問題なのです」（レイニア・ファン・ハウト）*Q＆Aより抜粋和訳
