So I guess we skipped kristallnacht and jumped straight to the round-em-up phase?

Just unsubscribed from the @washingtonpost.com. I support independent journalism, but it's clear that the WaPo isn't in that category anymore. The opinion section is openly Bezos' mouthpiece now, and I can't trust that the news room will be protected anymore, either.

I hate to say it guys, but if someone has a piece of cloth tied to a stick and its color is Pantone 032 C, that's a red flag.

imo, if there's one lesson for Dems to take from 2016 and 2024, it's not to be afraid to declare *and enact* their policies. "But Republicans are stonewalling" — then figure it out at the state level. Make your case for why it's good policy and then make progress *somewhere*. People will notice.

One thing @heidiloch.bsky.social and I have been discussing is that Dems somehow forgot that a big part of government is just doing the basics of governance. Shit like this is a great example. 3½ years of running a major community center 30 days at a time?! www.cambridgeday.com/2024/11/19/n...
Nonprofit running events at Somerville's Armory says it will leave if city doesn't present plan by '25 - Cambridge Day
Somerville’s inaction on its Armory arts building is about to drive away an organization producing 750 events for 250,000 people a year, said the nonprofit’s chief executive, Stephanie Scherpf.

Sanders hits on something here that he then forgets in his summary bullet points: Democrats need to remember that politics is at least as much about emotion as policy. Dems can't win with technocrats and boringly stable hands at the tops of tickets! Get some fire! www.bostonglobe.com/2024/11/10/o...
Democrats must choose: The elites or the working class - The Boston Globe
In my view, the Democrats lost this election because they ignored the justified anger of working class America and became the defenders of a rigged economic and political system.

> and to push forward their vision of governance by passing state laws

MA will not lead on this until its legislature learns how to actually make decisions. Some transparency would be great, too; naturally, the only thing they can agree to quickly is to reduce that.
Democrats Draw Up an Entirely New Anti-Trump Battle Plan
The party’s early preparations to oppose the next Trump administration are heavily focused on legal fights and consolidating state power, rather than marching in the streets.

I'm really into fantasy novels, and specifically the fantasy that I'll actually read any novels this year.

One of my life goals is to try to get past a cover charge by bribing the bouncer with the same amount.

"That'll be $20, sir"

"Really. Because my friend Mr Jackson here thinks I should get in for free ;) ;) "

If someone is erudite about freedom and guns, do you say they're 'Meridite?

I just had a really interesting thought for generative AI. I was talking about Jane Austen with a friend, about how the story and characters are great but I don't like the circuitous style. I do like Shirley Jackson's style, though. Gen AI could totally rewrite Emma in the style of Jackson!

"I'd like a flan, please" ➡️ "did you want plain, or tahini flavored?" ➡️ sounds like it's gonna be a two-flan night!

Pro life tip: if it's dinner time and you want a couple slices, and you don't have anything for breakfast tomorrow, order a whole pie instead of just getting slices. That way, when you accidentally eat the whole thing for dinner, you still won't have anything for breakfast. 🌠
