Two cours-ish? Shoot me with recs if you have any, though I already caught some eps beyond that point

Sad to watch a legendary performer saying "damn this kid is good at dancing" then you see the clip and it's... well, it exists
yuyucow.bsky.social
Good news: the character who sucks is actually great
yuyucow.bsky.social
Hope it doesn't drive me away because mutobe's got the sauce. Also I hope they can somehow animate 2 cours of his absurd ideas?

Extremely specific compositions and layouts that are nightmarish to draw, with pointed intent narratively, thematically, and even when it comes to the series' relationship with its real location. But also sometimes he just thinks the insane angle is cool. It's so fun when real nerds direct things

Also, Chiramune! I bounced off the LNs multiple times, despite knowing they had Ideas, because the internal narration was rat poison to me. The anime keeps his character voice but trims enough of that to so far make it palatable, especially with the direction of an absolute sicko like mutobe

Heard SI-VIS was macrossian and that's a close enough approximation, especially in a world in need of replacements since Kawamori is busy being an AI peddler. Wish it had the means to sell performances that are meant to be amazing, but there's potential for fun chemistry with Maruto writing it all

SpyFam S3 is in fact more SpyFam. Maybe returning to a WIT-focused production for this season, since there's no movie to distract them? They did a pretty damn good job with the action across the premiere

Don't watch Imouza if you loved Gimai Seikatsu & want more Ghost Mikawa content. You'll recognize some writing traits and it'll piss you off that it's in such a deeply mediocre anime instead. Shout out to the single most online poisoned opening I've seen though

Though even if you do, the production values are bad to the point of derailing everything. Genuinely puzzling, it feels almost like the licensing and Kato's expensive toys were so costly that the entire production dried up otherwise. Even the OP starts with cool imagery and then can't sustain itself

I don't think there's much that a sane person can get out of the Wandance anime, other than the occasional beautiful BG & the objectively funny (and thematically appropriate) wholesale inclusion of the Scatman music videos. Fellow weirdos might appreciate some of Kato's Kizu-like wild swings, though

I know which option would make for a more interesting show, but regardless, the mere idea of a Digimon TV show that allowed the team to cook is already kinda appealing. First time in a while where the production isn't immediately doomed
yuyucow.bsky.social
Digimon Beatbreak was fun, though it left me wondering just how much it'll push back against a setting that is (from the details we have so far) a nightmarish techbro dystopia with impossible levels of classism built into it. The characters are set directly against it, but will it be the focus?

The dynamic is rather different, and it likely can't match its highs, but those strengths immediately brought Skip & Loafer to mind. And you know, always a good thing to be reminiscent of

Finally caught some Fall anime premieres. Favorite so far is Yano-kun, which I was preemptively down on because it got tantalizingly close to a Yubisaki-like miracle adaptation yet ended up more down to earth. However: GREAT vibes and lowkey gorgeous color design by one of the best in the business

Wrote about the whys and hows behind the amazing improvements for season 2 of My Dress-Up Darling / Kisekoi. More experienced & bolder directors, better production circumstances, and engagement with more diverse subcultures in a way that reinforces its themes blog.sakugabooru.com/2025/10/08/t...

Nice reminder that Liden Kyoto is a tiny hub of ex-KyoAni folks sometimes too, since Rika Ota showed up to direct the ending sequence. Song slaps and she derived cool Alice in Wonderland imagery out of it www.youtube.com/watch?v=OIZd...

Apart from the polished character art, best thing about the adaptation so far is the storyboarding. In the sense that its comedic timing is solid, but also, Kazuya Sakamoto can make a cool cartoon sometimes
yuyucow.bsky.social
She doesn't discriminate tbf, she's also really funny wrecking people in the slums if they piss her off
yuyucow.bsky.social
Extends to the action: very stop-and-go because constant motion is outside of its reach, but the drawings themselves retain the sharp appeal of the animation designs, and more importantly the elegance of a lady that beats up nobles for sport
yuyucow.bsky.social
I think the reason why the first two eps of Saihito work nicely despite being just one repeating joke is that they flesh out Scarlet through it. She's joyful about violence, shamelessly lies, acts sorta petty... but she feels like she's got beliefs, and tbh she's justified because these people suck
yuyucow.bsky.social
They don't let women have hobbies anymore
yuyucow.bsky.social
Yep, it's Liden Kyoto! Can't expect the entirety of the gang to show up (people like Segawa are crazy busy right now) but I can trust Sakamoto & co to make something respectable even with limitations
