In the wake of Charlie Kirk’s assassination, and reports that the suspect etched obscure internet memes onto recovered bullet casings, @yveilleuxlepage.bsky.social examines the rise of inscribed and decorated firearms in political violence and argues such markings are deliberate communicative acts.

Reddit has finally banned FOSSCAD, the largest and longest-running subreddit dedicated to 3D-printed firearms.

The community was removed for violating Rule 7: "Keep it legal, and avoid posting illegal content or soliciting or facilitating illegal or prohibited transactions."

At a Canadian charity festival, scammers used a 3D printer to make fake $8 tokens, defrauding local groups. Beyond weapons, 3D printing has enabled fraud from license plates to fake IDs. Emerging tech isn’t dangerous itself, but misuse is unpredictable.

The killing of Charlie Kirk echoes the assassination of Jean-Paul Marat. Both were polarizing figures, admired by supporters and reviled by opponents. History shows assassinations rarely silence. They create martyrs, amplify conflict, and shape politics long after the act itself.

New article with Joery Matthys in Het Tijdschrift Politie. Using Operation Desarme 3D as a case study, we explore how right wing extremists across Western countries are experimenting with 3D printed firearms and what this means for law enforcement internationally.

Five CAF members suspended after a video showed Nazi salutes. Comes as RCMP charge Quebec soldiers in a terror plot with Canada’s largest-ever weapons cache.

As my 2022 ICCT paper warned, extremism in the ranks erodes trust and worsens the CAF’s recruitment crisis.

After nearly 2 years of legal proceedings, UK teen Ondrej Sidelka has been sentenced to 2 years in custody for terrorism offences. He maintained a digital archive of neo-Nazi propaganda, EID guides, and 3D-printed gun files intended to aid terrorist violence.

That's a tough question—extremism varies in form and severity. Criminal acts should be reported to police, but there are also non–law enforcement resources. Yorktown Family Services and OPV do excellent work and may offer better avenues for support. They're worth contacting.

We have limited data on this phenomenon in Canada. I wrote a piece a few years ago highlighting this gap, where I urged the CAF to adopt a model similar to Germany’s military which publishes annual reports on the number of extremist threats identified within the ranks and the measures taken.
yveilleuxlepage.bsky.social
Two recent cases expose the ongoing threat of extremism in the Canadian Armed Forces: a private FB group sharing hate content, and a militia plot involving active-duty soldiers. Most CAF members serve with honour, but these are serious issues. I co-wrote a study on the risks
