Twitch CEO Dan Clancy opts to do an IRL donation instead of gifting 20 subs, so that Twitch doesn't take a cut.

It's pretty based. A direct tip puts almost 50% more of your money into a creator's pockets, better enabling them to keep streaming! I'm all for this!

Some math...

If 80% of users are lurkers, so they never saw it.
And 50% of the remaining users have marketing notifications turned off...

The conversion rate there is only 0.58%.

Twitch has cooked their own ability to market to the community by burning out the usefulness of marketing notifications.

I find this fascinating.

These notifications are historically used to promote significant events, Twitchcon tickets, badges, and other 'exciting' things.

Either promoting a glizzy slinging event doesn't resonate with anyone (a one-off miss), or...

Twitch's own "Marketing Notifications" appear to have very limited impact.

On Friday, Twitch sent out a sitewide notification promoting ExtraEmily's Hot Dog stream.

This resulted in a rather tepid result, as only 1000 people joined the stream.

They download your clips, and post them on their own social media accounts.

Then they share that link in that form, and it tracks views on those posts.

Twitch has launched the Social Badge system, which rewards your viewers with channel badges if they post your content on their TikTok, YouTube, or Instagram and get views on it.

Twitch will soon be launching Watch Streaks for all creators.

This will include a way to "Save a Streak" and notifications to do so.

Options include:
- Watch the VOD
- Watch a Clip
- Watch a Story
- Watch the Next Live if it's within 24 hours of the missed Live.

So there are two possible outcomes (imo)... a couple years of mediocrity and ultimately another reshuffle or scaleback. OR... disconnecting Amazon branding (Prime) could present an opportunity to offload it to a potential buyer at some point in the future.

Personal opinion... Shuffling of the deck, but probably a losing hand.

With "Prime" and "Gaming," you had clear branding (part of your Prime Sub alongside Prime Music/Video), and Gaming (self-explanatory). Now, it has no brand awareness or recall, nor a clear descriptor of what it is.

If you're not familiar with Amazon Luna, it's a cloud gaming service that launched in 2022.

They announced today an overhaul of what it offers, including new games and a redesigned layout.

Prime Gaming is becoming part of Amazon Luna.

There are no current changes to Prime subscriptions on Twitch.

Twitch Vertical Stream Update

1. Twitch is renaming Vertical Streams to Portrait Streams.
2. Portrait-only VODs will not be available until "Expanded Beta." (Currently in Limited Alpha.)
3. Portrait VODs + Clips will have no Ads until Mid-2026.
