The original Garfield and Friends was picked up for Boomerang UK in 2003. Weirdly, the UK run only consisted of Seasons 1 and 2... and the first episode of Season 3 for some reason. No specials ran unfortunately (Perhaps, more content was hoping to follow, but couldn't due to rights issue, etc). Originally premiered in the afternoons and mornings, Garfield later moved to primetime evening slots, occasionally popping in and out, until being dropped completely out of the schedule around late 2006. Over in the US originally ran the series from 2005 to 2008. It wouldn't return until 2018, where the remastered version was shown on late-nights, and was also available, along with the TV specials, on the streaming app. Meanwhile, Garfield and Friends had also been showing over in Australia, Italy, Spain and Latin America. A new series, The Garfield Show, premiered on Boomerang around the world from 2009, starting in the UK, and eventually being added to France, Italy, Central and Eastern Europe, Australia and Nordic regions. Germany was the last country to pick it up (being added in 2014), while the US originally ran on Cartoon Network, before to Boomerang with the last 2 seasons. Garfield also got a series of films. Two live-action features were released theatrically during the 2000s, with the first movie getting shown multiple times on Boomerang UK in 2009. There were also three straight to video flicks: Garfield Gets Real, Garfield's Fun Fest and Garfield's Pet Force. The latter two have been shown on Boomerang UK from 2010 to 2013. In 2019, Paws Inc, the company that owns Garfield, is acquired by Viacom. Today, the fat cat is now part of Nickelodeon, being included in the crossover games Kart Racers and All-Stars Brawl 1 and 2. A new series for Nickelodeon is currently in production.
