Routing in DD is essentially learning a bunch of tricks and maneuvers to improve consistency in your runs. Routing in Darkula is experimenting over many runs with chain starter choices to find an optimal path allowing for easy item bonus pickup and to lead the AI to less threatening areas.

Interesting to compare this with Donut Dodo. Chains in Donut Dodo are random, which gives a Spelunky-esque wildness to each run, whereas chains in Darkula are determinative so memo is a bit more important.
