The city forced the Scientology staff and residents out of the building over a decade ago because of structural problems. A decade+ of disrepair (and lack of actual repair) means it’s probably a strong gust away from crumbling and causing injury or damage. A lot would need to be done for a shelter.

My theory is that they’re waiting for a whale to give them the money to actually do something with the property, but Scientology ain’t what it was.

Lots of history here:

According to a sign on the window they have vacated the building and moved to a temporary location at 77 Peter St. They've posted a rendering and it looks pretty decent with red and silver as the main colours. I think there's a pic of it floating around in some thread but I can't remember where.

They have repeatedly owed the city massive amounts of back property taxes, and routinely get around having to maintain the property by stating they’re going to “renovate” and drawing up half-hearted plans. The building has been deemed unsafe for work or residence. 1/

He’s a friend of one of the owners. I thought maybe he was an electrician or something just testing out the machines. I had no clue. Funny thing is, BNL were my first ever concert; they played my high school shortly before Gordon debuted. I’ve seen them 5 times. Still never crossed my mind.

I created the menu for the first incarnation of Tilt Arcade Bar, and was doing some food tests in the kitchen days before grand opening. I brought some donut samples out to the front of house and offered them to a guy playing pinball. Turns out it was Ed Robertson of Barenaked Ladies. 1/2

If you wait, 100 years from now, closeted racists/fascists will yet again cry about how it’s “destroying history” to remove something meant to honour and exalt someone who was amongst the most abhorrent human beings raised to power.

Prevented from speaking about it until their own contracts are signed, no doubt.

Two mics in front of her doing absolutely nothing, long awkward pauses, and a stupid goofy smile saying “OMG, I’m a TV star now!”. She’s got the closest thing she’ll ever get to her dream of being in the WWE, and she hasn’t got the skill or riz to pull it off.

Did he just pull a No True Scotsman on friendship with Jeffrey Epstein?

The “dropped him when things got to hot” kinda implies disdain for doing so.

It’s served by Palm Beach International, literally 5 miles from Palm Springs.

People landing at Pearson say they’re landing in Toronto, even though it’s in Mississauga.

There’s a Palm Springs in Florida as well.

Seriously, we need to eminent domain the trackage and increase funding for VIA, rather than whatever the hell it is the government’s been doing for decades.
December 12, 2025 at 10:39 AM
In addition, in this case busses (alternate form of transport) would’ve also incurred that 50% discount. VIA was so poor already, and Carney just forced a 15% cut on them.

Any income is likely to get funnelled into ALTO; which means already terrible corridor travel is really gonna suuuuuuuck.
December 12, 2025 at 10:37 AM
“No back-up funds” you mean.

VIA are so often delayed by CN & CPKC freight trains, I’m sure that their “50% off your next trip if there’s a delay of over 1 hour” is having a significant financial impact on their coffers. It has happened to every family member who takes trains on the corridor.

It’s likely more about the chilling effect it’ll have, rather than the ability to enforce it.

Free coffee and donuts! Wait, whats “zoning”?

Not that I disagree with building Nuclear, but Ford just wants that level of energy for factories and data centres.

Someone really needs to follow up by asking why Ontario Legislature doesn’t regularly operate outside of weekday hours, and how a citizenry is supposed to keep their government transparent and accountable only on nights and weekends.

Local man with one of the worst records of attendance as both a councillor and an MPP, who disappears when Question Period starts you mean.

He can’t even do the job that was handed to him right.
