the best advice i can give is that the medium through which you do it really does not matter, as long as it allows you, as a social group, to have fun. i've bought and played games for months that i honestly thought were kinda bad just because we played them as a friend group and that made it fun

it's ok to bond through splatoon (e.g. salmon run / casual anarchy open) or, and this is the most important part i think, just giving space to have open-ended conversations. i regularly spend time in vc just talking about random things with friends while everyone does their individual things
