FWIW: I'm a neurodiverse parent of two kids: one neurotypical and another neurodivergent. Both are rapidly approaching college age.

I wish I'd had access to IEP accommodations in school. Or that *anyone* had recognized my strengths and weaknesses back then. It might have made a huge difference.

Denying ADA accommodations or stigmatizing them as “cheating” without evidence(!) undermines the whole purpose of disability rights laws. It risks harming a lot of people whose disabilities are very real.

And yes, it really is okay for someone who has say, severe anxiety to get a little help. 🙄

The idea that it's somehow unfair that a student get a little extra time to take a test, or do so without distractions is ludicrous.

Why?

We want a student's academic performance to be determined by their knowlege and abilities.

So, we make sure their needs are accommodated.

Fair Treatment.

What's more, being wired differently can include valuable strengths like hyperfocus, atypical problem-solving abilities, and more.

What this means:

Accommodations are not “special favors”. They simply ensure that everyone has equal and fair access to education by leveling the playing field.

As our understanding of people and neurodiversity has evolved, we've learned the importance of expanded support systems. They help everyone succeed.

We also know that neurodiverse students often have different cognitive profiles. We're wired differently than neurotypicals.

A neurodivergent student can be intelligent and driven to succeed, yet still face challenges under conventional teaching / assessment models.

Those models were built on an assumption that everyone learns the same way and a "one size fits all" model will always work for everyone.

It doesn't.

But, as with many things in Judaism, the idea that we should or should not encompasses conflicting advice. 😁

Is It OK to Celebrate the Elimination of an Arch-Terrorist?
What is so terrible about celebrating the death of a wicked evildoer? Should we not feel happy that the world has become a safer and happier place?

We aren't supposed to rejoice in the death of anyone, including evil people. A story in the Sanhedrin has G-d chastising the angels for rejoicing in the death of Pharoah and the Egyptians. ("How can you sing when my people are dying?")

We can, however, celebrate the downfall of evil people.

The topic is typically only raised in relation to us when people want to invoke antisemitic dual loyalty tropes about American Jews.

I'm Jewish and American. Pray tell, what countries do you think i'm a citizen of?

It's less about whether or not he knows his facts, and more about him trying to create "facts" that'll let him be openly antisemitic and accepted for it.

It's so strange seeing videos like this. Queens homes generally follow a set floor plan. If I stepped in the door, I'd know where everything was. Most Queens residents probably would.
