First up, I'm an academically-schooled philosopher, and came pretty close a couple times to teaching in a classroom, but washed myself out of that by being bad at passive aggressive interviews, not wanting to uproot my wife to get crap sessional positions, and having a mood disorder.

the short version is that democratic societies have failed to deliver economic progress and long-term social planning. they just kick the can and keep the public too disoriented to organize around mass demands. the public has therefore largely descended into paranoia and nihilistic destructiveness

It's natural to look for a way to cope, but we're falling back into more neoliberal incremental bullshit. small gains are nothing against a tsunami of loss. thinking you're going to grind it out for another twenty five years means we're all dead. ...and not figuratively dead. LITTERALLY.
