Greetings. I'm Jack, also known as Zealous Alchemy. I'm an artist and xylographer (fancy term for woodcut printmaker).

My work is inspired by my scattershot of interests including: history, film, gaming, anime, and manga.

I also have an obsession with country music, for reasons unbeknown to me.

Watched Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid.

I had high hopes but it was not what I was expecting. Tonally all over the shop, and the bicycle montage with "Raindrops Keep Falling on my Head" was just diabolical.

The final shootout was cool as hell though.

He doesn't get the recognition he deserves; and neither does the genre of skiffle. He should be a British Icon.

Carving away.

Need to knock back the large blank areas more so they don't catch any ink, it's a tedious process but I think it's worth it.

I'm going to have to try and carve Franklin soon, I'm still concerned the details might be too small, but I'll manage.

Made a solid start carving this block.

My progress always looks haphazard. This is because I often swap between carving details and clearing areas. It breaks up the work, and helps to avoid RSI.

Every time I draw a design for a woodcut, I tell myself I won't put too much detail because it'll take forever to carve.

Somehow, I still ended up with a tiny Benjamin Franklin to carve.

Drawing flames in black and white without relying on linework was extremely difficult, but I think I've achieved what I set out to.

WIP design for an A Better Tomorrow (1986) woodcut. Mostly need to work out the flames!

Reinterpreting existing imagery should help figure out where I'm headed with woodcut in regard to style, so I'm planning at least a few movie still inspired pieces.
