Also, fun fact, neither of these are insects! Isopods are crustaceans which come in both terrestrial and aquatic varieties, while the ancestors of springtails diverged from other hexapods approx. 400 million years ago; one branch became bristle/springtails, the other branch became ALL other insects!

I've wanted to keep pods for quite a long time, but I'm especially excited for these ones; Trichorhina Tomentosa are parthenogenetic, meaning the species is entirely female and produces full clones as offspring.

I haven't used adapters in a bit, but I bet you could find some cheap HDMI-in to VGA-out ones online that would work with your monitor.
ngl, I wish I'd throw out my old components; I worked in circuit recycling in high school and now they just accumulate because I'm convinced I can still use them 🙃

last time I did a big upgrade I was so excited to finally have everything be HDMI and ditch all my little adapters- that was the day I discovered DisplayPort was the new standard. Years later, the cable latency is still worse than HDMI if you're connecting a cheap monitor to a multi-display :(

I know exactly how you feel. Honestly, I'd rather be wrong and look like a total asshole for posting all this, if only because I prefer to believe in the inherent goodness in people.

There's also other inconsistencies, like the sudden (and apparently uncharacteristic) appearance of emoji usage.
Also, to be clear, I'm not saying this account is for sure a scammer, rather I think they were hacked by one. (however @zoelocke.bsky.social might have a point about algo manipulation)

I did think that was a possibility at first, but I've seen this same exact post (but w/ different vids) from a number of completely different accs. I'd link them, but not only did I block/mute/hide all the others I saw, but some of the other pet videos they used were honestly too graphic to share.

Stuff like this is exactly why scammers make me so mad; they know they can prey on people who are morally well adjusted- it's one of the worst kinds of power move. I completely agree with you, too; even if there's as much as a 1% chance that it's somehow not a scam, it's emotionally overwhelming.

No worries, I had pretty much the same reaction as you to the first one I saw. I hope the people who got hijacked can get their accounts back too

After seeing about a dozen of these, I'm confident it's some kind of phishing/infostealer/scam attempt being rolled out by a botnet.

They aren't; this same exact post (and many others like it depicting grievously injured animals and linking to a shady blogspot) has been flooding bluesky today, all from hacked accounts w/ "animal lover" in bio. Notice how the guy that posted this doesn't speak English in any of his other posts?
