LA City Charter Reform Commission just voted to recommend expanding the Los Angeles City Council from 15 to 23-31 seats!!

In the Bay, 22 of 30 Assemblymembers voted Yes.
In SoCal, only 17 of 44 voted Yes.
Dems like LA Mayor Karen Bass fought SB 79 while young champions like Asm Sade Elhawary looked to the future.

The Glendale Blvd & Fletcher Dr intersection in Silver Lake is a mess.
Now the City is considering spending $13 million... just to save four parking spots and add a sidewalk.

Why we need #SB445 in a nutshell. CA High Speed Rail is trying to right-size stations to reduce costs, but now the Mayor of Fresno is going to try and fight it.
So long as permits for transit projects are in the hands of individual cities, we will continue to waste taxpayer money.

These improvements can be funded by state funds, high-intensity development on parking lots surrounding the Metro station, and enhanced infrastructure financing districts, which reinvest the property value created by better infrastructure directly back into projects

Westwood is already one of the most transit-rich neighborhoods in Los Angeles, yet it is currently a mess of stroads and vacant retail fronts. With the subway opening before 2028, funding for bus lanes on Wilshire and Westwood, and UCLA next door, this community is the perfect showcase.

For the Alphabet neighborhood, the current lots are too narrow to achieve the necessary home spacing if every house is standing on its own.
The only safe way forward is through semi-detached duplexes: two individual homes with one shared wall.

But in the Alphabet streets (built in 1920s) where the spacing was ~5ft between houses, nearly every single house was destroyed.
