Maybe a dark sun esque setting where you need magic to eat and drink but it drains the earth around you everytime you do, leading to pockets of unrecoverable dead earth?

How much of this can be resolved through game mechanics vs just being eluded to atmospherically via a campaign book? I will say even as I say it out loud I can think of a few mechanics haha. One being a countdown clock where everything you do that is bad for the world but necessary for example

I just assumed that since you apply for event permits that the cost of that is for administrative fees and also the community police? Like that’s what makes sense in my head

There is a game for the NES called Nightshade. It’s such a sassy and sarcastic detective fighter game with elements of Gotham, superheroes, and Egyptian symbology. A new version of that game with an also updated soundtrack would be awesome
