The County Board often tries to downplay the dangers of the HERC and confuse the public with jargon. But what information are they not sharing? What does the science and data actually show? We hope you will join to dig in to these questions!

The county's own Zero Waste Plan only calls for a *study* of this facility, and *only after the county has reached 67% recycling* (see pages 11 and 44 of ZW Plan) - www.hennepin.us/solidwastepl...
Solid waste planning
Hennepin County's master plan for managing solid waste, and the county's future plans for increasing recycling.

2) This type of facility is opposed by zero waste experts all over the world, as well as the recycling industry, because it damages the recycling system. It would cost ~$180 million that could be much better spent to get to zero waste.

While Hennepin County framed this as a “recycling recovery facility”,

1) This facility would mean thousands more garbage trucks with 350,000 tons of waste per year moving through already overburdened neighborhoods in North Minneapolis and Brooklyn Park, compounding air pollution and traffic risks.

After Brooklyn Park residents in the ZB Coalition learned Hennepin County was attempting to secure $26 mil in state funding for a waste processing facility w no community engagement or a date for initiating a HERC shutdown, we worked to make sure this project was not included in the state budget.

This is no longer a need! The pressure worked and funding has been pulled. More details on this soon!
