Now I understand what pepe was used for on sites like 4chan and Shitter. But nowadays to my knowledge he's just used in memes and twitch emotes. So I guess cracking a joke about a dead meme sometimes gets unintentional backlash.

This reminds me of a time I made a pepe the frog reference and people got upset at me. So someone posted a screenshot of some Final Fantasy game and I saw one of the characters was named Pepe so I just said "feelsfinalfantasyman" and somehow I was committing a hate crime.
