theres a video by proko talking about monster designs and he starts with a humanoid vine + pumpkin and ends up with crazy detailed designs just by slowly changing them. I hope you feel better!!

a lot of art/characters/concepts you enjoy was either subconsciously, or consciously influenced by someone else's work.
overtime you may develop a concept beyond what you originally created. honestly most of my characters were in someone else's universe at first (before I changed them enough times)
