High pressure has created a pretty strong inversion layer across the Bay Area, trapping all the fog and bad air quality at the surface. It’s also trapping cold air at the surface - which means above the inversion layer on top of the mountains it’s actually 10°+ warmer than the valleys!

The sun will set over San Francisco at 4:50 PM through Thursday…our earliest sunsets of the year! Starting Friday, the sun will begin to set later. But our shortest day of the year isn’t until December 21, because the sunrise will continue to get later through January! @kpixtv.bsky.social

It's not going to be as strong as the display last month, but there's the chance for far northern parts of the US to see the aurora tonight! Unfortunately there's going to be a LOT of cloud coverage from a clipper storm, so most areas won't be as lucky this time. @kpixtv.bsky.social

LOT'S of weather to talk about across the Northern US this week...another round of snow thanks to a clipper storm, with an even bigger blast of arctic air to follow. Moisture from this storm is brought by an atmospheric river, currently bringing heavy rain across the PNW. @cbsnews.com.web.brid.gy

Bay Area microclimates are in full force...opposite from what you'd see in the summer!

Inland areas are dealing with dense, stubborn fog keeping temperatures 5-10° cooler than the rest of the Bay. Coastal communities will be the warmest, warming up more farther south! @kpixtv.bsky.social

Gorgeous timelapse over San Francisco above the fog this morning🤩

Most of us didn’t get this view under the fog, so I thought I’d share with you all!
December 8, 2025 at 1:35 AM
High pressure will continue to deflect all storms north of California, bringing the Pacific NW over a week of rainy weather. Thanks to high pressure, the Bay Area won't see a drop of rain until at least the middle of the month...if not later. Cool and foggy until then! @kpixtv.bsky.social

Another day filled with morning fog giving way to afternoon sunshine and not-so-great air quality across most of the Bay Area. Stubborn fog across inland valleys will keep highs near 50°. Drive down the coast to Santa Cruz or Monterey to enjoy the 60s and better air quality! @kpixtv.bsky.social

Have you gone surfing in the Bay Area?! Or are you like me, too wimpy to deal with the chilly ocean water? Or like Kelsi and scared of sharks?

At least there's going to be sunshine if you're heading to the coast today! Whether you're out surfing or just watching, remember to dress accordingly!
December 6, 2025 at 7:20 PM
WHY is it so foggy in the Bay Area!?

It's because we're experiencing TWO different types of fog right now! Thick tule fog from the Central Valley (very common in winter) spills into the Bay Area's valleys while marine fog (very common in summer) pushes in from the coast! @kpixtv.bsky.social

It's been a relatively quiet start to this snow season across the Sierra - some parts 83% below normal for snowfall.

BUT, precipitation as a whole (rain and snow) is actually above average for the Sierra - most of our precipitation so far this season has fallen as rain! @kpixtv.bsky.social

More thick tule fog will develop across the Central Valley tonight, spilling into the inland East Bay. This fog will stick around into the early afternoon, keeping highs a few degrees cooler inland Thursday afternoon. Sunnier and slightly warmer weather moves in by Friday! @kpixtv.bsky.social

It's that time of year between Thanksgiving and Christmas when everyone (or maybe it's just me😅) forgets what day it is!
December 4, 2025 at 2:20 AM
A bitter, arctic blast is making it's way across the Northern US this week. Record cold overnight lows will spill across most of IA and into KS. Daytime highs tomorrow across the Midwest will be in the teens, with wind chill making it feel like the single digits! @cbsnews.com.web.brid.gy
December 4, 2025 at 2:16 AM
Snow will continue to wrap up overnight across the Northeast - any water on the ground freezes overnight and creates some slick early Tuesday morning commutes.

An arctic blast is hot on it's heels, with bitter cold moving across the Northern US through the rest of the week🥶
December 3, 2025 at 2:31 AM
Get ready for sunshine Bay Area - THE FOG IS FINALLY GOING TO CLEAR!!! After a VERY foggy past week across our inland valley areas, drier air will allow fog to lift by Tuesday afternoon and temperatures to warm 5-10°...enjoy the sunnier skies while it lasts (until Wednesday)! @kpixtv.bsky.social
December 2, 2025 at 2:18 AM
ANOTHER snowstorm on the way across central US - an additional 1-5" is likely across the Midwest, with accumulating ice being an issue across AR, KY, TN, and the Appalachian Mountains through early Tuesday. The heaviest snow will be across the highest elevations of New England. @cbsnews.com

There was a mag 3.3 earthquake at 10:56 PM Sunday near Kenwood, just SE of Santa Rosa. So far there’s been two aftershocks, 2.7 and 3.1 respectively. It’s been an active past week of earthquakes across the Bay - just a reminder to get your earthquake disaster plan and emergency kit ready!
December 1, 2025 at 9:28 AM
Another cold and foggy start to this Monday is in store across the Bay Area...but there is FINALLY going to be a break in this foggy/chilly weather pattern into the mid week. North Bay will see more sunshine tomorrow, and inland areas more sunshine by Tuesday/Wednesday! @kpixtv.bsky.social
December 1, 2025 at 3:36 AM
After some dense fog this morning, upper level clouds will arrive this afternoon. Highs will be a few degrees cooler than yesterday, in the high 50s/low 60s. We'll warm up slightly through the midweek, but seasonable and dry weather will stick around all Thanksgiving week. @kpixtv.bsky.social

HOW much rain has the Bay Area seen since November 1st?

Salinas/San Jose are in their top 6 and 7 (respectively) wettest first three weeks on record. It's SF's wettest in over a decade, and Oakland's wettest since 2017.

However, inland East Bay, like Livermore, is below average so far this month.

DENSE fog (<.25 miles), known as tule fog, this time of year is very common in CA.

Moisture on the ground comes in contact with cold air, condensing it, and with calm winds and clear skies the fog just keeps getting thicker...until temperatures warm up by the afternoon! @kpixtv.bsky.social
