There is a sweet spot. Probably 25-50 years for mid sized buildings built after the early 70s (improved materials and codes).

I recall an episode of the bah area NPR call in show about this. The housing “advocate” guest said the new “luxury “ units raise the median price (sure, obviously), but that meant people were paying more. Wtf?

It should be fine as long as you do it inside on your coffee table.

I agree there was (and is) a public subsidy to support car suburbs. But in many places that style of development has reached its limit. It’s now build up or stop growth.

It seems like a weird thing to argue about. I guess if your town is surrounded by farms and keep expanding it’s a choice.

But at least in the big CA metros we simply can’t build and more SFH. So the choices are keep all the SFH and watch the price go up. Or replace some with density.

Capitalism is built around property rights. If I own a parcel of residential property I should be able to build whatever I want as long as it’s mostly residential.

Are you going to pay me for the loss of value from the restriction? You are taking my property without compensation. What is that?

One you sell it to someone, it belongs to them.

I'm doing Holland. A bunch of the mechanics are clearly way out of balance. And the AI is just crazy. England can't seem to ever manage a naval invasion. And it will spam random proposals to all organizations (eg a defensive league) constantly.

EU5 is very promising, it should be great once the EA period is over in a year.

Money matters in education, but not in the way people think.

The only intervention (for poorly performing schools) with really clear positive impact is an extra free meal

The only really clear predictor for a high performing school is the wealth and education (generally correlated) of the parents

Wow, such a bad idea. All of the prominent experts in computer security have said clearly for decades that we should never do this.

Is any part of the disagreement about types of cities? IMO areas with continuous development, where the end of one city is just the start of another are very different from more isolated cities, where the edge of town is unincorporated rural land.
