in theory, yes you could just replace the processor
in practice, not so much. if your CPU is that old, it's likely that a newer processor would not be compatible with your existing motherboard, and when you swap that out you'd swap out your RAM too likely, at which point your halfway to a new PC

FWIW it's short, 6-10 hours for a playthrough. Perfect amount of time, it never felt like a slog or stretched out.
