Anime fan. Soundtrack junkie. Also big on board games. I write at Anime Instrumentality and My Board Game Guides.
That feeling of oddness when your six-year old requests to listen to #Yoasobi 🥴

Managed to play Planet Unknown for the first time. This #boardgame is pretty light and breezy and scales pretty well. Light on player interaction if that’s what you’re looking for though, so while I’ll never proactively request to play it, I’ll happily partake.

Sheepy Time is a blast! A very fun game that isn’t getting the love it deserves. The game has you in the role of a dream sheep trying to outrun nightmares. For folks who love the press your luck element in their #boardgames, complete with some very charming artwork will find much to like here.

One of the taller structures we built while playing a stacking #boardgame called Rhino Hero Super Battle. A fun tense experience where the tower was on the verge of falling. And my kiddo wound up winning!

Finally got a chance to play a heavy #boardgame in the form of Shikoku 1889. Economic warfare was never so fun and engaging. Really looking forward to future plays to experiment with other levers.

Been pretty satisfied with the anime I’ve been able to watch from this year. My top 5:
1. Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End
2. Dandadan (cliffhanger notwithstanding)
3. Yatagarasu: The Raven Does Not Choose Its Master
4. Girls Band Cry
5. Oshi no Ko S2

A good year overall!

As evidenced by this summary, my daughter became my primary #boardgames partner this year. Her ability to pick up new games and rules has been a marvel. Hope to be able to introduce more games to her this year! But also hope to play some heavier stuff as well. Happy 2025, all!

Another scenario of the Cthulhu Death May Die #boardgame where we deal with a Hatfields vs. McCoys type of scenario while protecting them from cultists. In this instance we were overrun by baddies, including a premature arrival of the Big C himself. But was it fun? Heck yes!

#Dandadan’s ability to generate humor, suspense/tension, adorbs, and romance in quick succession and executing it well to boot puts it in rarefied air. A wonderful anime with an excruciating 7-month wait, but one that I’m looking forward to!

Finally got to try out The Wolves, a #boardgame where you’re in charge of a pack of wolves and ranging out to find food and establish dens. The concept is enjoyable but some of the scoring mechanisms make me go hmm and I definitely need to experiment some more.

Finally got The Great Zimbabwe #boardgame back to the table with 4 new players. Tight economy made for a very cutthroat but ultimately engaging experience. Hopefully I can get this back to the table more often.

A solemn reminder that my kid still influences a big chunk of the music I listen to.

Cutest thing my 6-year old daughter said last night when playing Coraquest: “I move four spaces and attack him with my heavy crossbow!” #boardgames #coraquest

Telling that most of the #boardgames I played in November are games for kids. Among those are a lovely dungeon-crawler in Coraquest and some fine spatial puzzles in Sunny Day and Labyrinth. Would recommend any of those for families with kids around 5-6 years old.

Finally got through Odd Taxi, a very intriguing mystery-thriller #anime that got a lot of plaudits when it aired. Definitely the kind of show that’s right up my alley with its multifaceted characters and a story where every detail seems tied to the main plot. Enjoyed it thoroughly. 9/10
