The new Gaza flotilla reports that Israel has intercepted several of its ships
Organizers of a new aid flotilla to Gaza say that the Israeli army intercepted several of their vessels on Wednesday. "Three ships ... were attacked and illegally intercepted by the Israeli army," they said on X, via the Global Sumud flotilla and AFP. The incidents occurred in the early hours about 220 kilometres from Gaza's coast. Among those on board was Más Madrid deputy Jimena González. They added that another vessel with more than 90 people aboard, including doctors, activists and journalists, was attacked by an Israeli military helicopter, while the Milad's crew were "intercepted." The Israeli Foreign Ministry confirmed the report on social media, saying "Another futile attempt to break the naval blockade and enter a combat zone ended in nothing," and that "the ships and passengers were transferred to an Israeli port" and that those detained "are safe and in good health." The Freedom Flotilla Coalition says the ships carry "vital aid valued at more than $110,000 in medicines, respiratory equipment and nutritional supplies destined for Gaza's hospitals in need." Israel has blocked several aid flotillas in recent months. Last week, the Global Sumud flotilla with about 45 ships, including politicians and activists, was intercepted, including Swedish activist Greta Thunberg.
