Two of the winners of this year’s Nobel Prize for physics, Michel Devoret & John Martinis, were awarded the Fritz London Memorial Prize in 2014. Which I mention apropos of nothing other than London being one of my personal Heroes of Quantum Mechanics!

Congratulations to John Clarke, Michel Devoret and John Martinis!

Martinis told our reporter that his wife had gotten the news in the middle of the night — in California time — but decided not to wake him up quite yet.

Among names I've heard mentioned are a couple of my former profs
Gertler
Manski

I'll also say...almost every year the selection almost always surprises me and others.

Final comment... not sure if any health economist has ever been awarded the prize other than the father of health economics (Arrow)

It aims to maximize surprise, and elevate writers around the world (mostly Europe) who are only known in highbrow circles

Back in the day people used to have a slide at the end of their presentations saying "and that's how the brain works" as an inside joke about Hinton since he was known to talk confidently out of his ass.

Now, the Nobel committee brought this upon us like they give the peace prize to genociders.
