Voters in the canton of Zurich on 30 November rejected the "Mehr bezahlbare Wohnungen" pre-emption-right initiative, while a counterproposal was narrowly approved.

For Winterthur and the city of Zurich, the clear rejection of the pre-emption initiative is a disappointment. The upcoming left-leaning housing proposals will have a very hard time in the canton.
