Fair to say that this weekend has been a triumph. Some truly excellent birds & scenery such that it’s hard to pick a favourite. If I had to though I’d go for this Black Redstart. What a stunning creature. #birds #UKWildlife #birdsOfTheWorld #photography #birdPhotography #wildlifePhotography #nature

Great to see the Black Redstart and Purple Sandpipers at Southsea Castle, Hampshire today. Brent Geese and Meadow Pipit were other highlights. #BirdsSeenIn2026 #UKBirding #UKWildlife

The Aberystwyth Purple Sandpipers must have had a falling out overnight as there was just one bird on the prom sea wall this morning. Another three, including the bird below, were at the opposite end of town along the harbour breakwater. #birdingWales #UKWildlife #birdsSeenIn2026 #birdsOfTheWorld

Whenever there’s a lull in the rarer birds, the robin always seems to lift the moment.
Sometimes it feels like they want to be photographed.

Godwits feeding on crustacea as the tide gently recedes. Winter mornings, along the North Norfolk Coast.

It's been a while since I've posted so why not come back with a #SuperSeabirdSunday post.

On Boxing Day we went to see the Newburn bridge Mediterranean Gull. At this point there was 2 but this has increased to 3!

Speckled Wood Pararge aegeria, of the family Nymphalidae. One of our most abundant and popular butterflies. It's always a joy to see one.

Other incredible find was a minute transparent green thing which wasn't visible to the naked eye, the previous one wasn't either. The green organism has a contracting trunk which supports 6 tentacles. This is a Green Hydra. #UkNature #BBCWinterwatch #UKwildlife #Aquaticlife #hydrozoans

For today's #BirdOfTheDay theme of #TwoOfAKind, I've chosen this male + female pair of Shelduck (Tadorna tadorna).
Amber listed in the UK, the small number of resident breeding birds is massively boosted by birds overwintering here.
