I still have some deficits in communication. They might not come across on camera because right now I'm in in the safe space of my home. There's no dialogue. I am in my comfort space. People would be "He's high functioning".

I was really tired after that experience. And I realized it's because I had to put on this front & I had to talk to these people, do something new. All of which required me to mask my autism a little bit. To disregard my sensory issues, my discomfort

It feels a bit invalidating because when I do try speak up about or trying to ask for accommodation that is necessity – people are quick to judge you are fine, this is just an excuse, you seem to be doing ok. Because I appear to be high functioning

We are not Diseased & in need of “cures” 🤮
& reframing our “characteristics” as “symptoms “ is deeply disturbing & without a doubt -Dangerous..

Why I use and speak of
#AutisticExperience all the time
It’s not difficult to reframe the way you view & speak to us.
#Autistic
Autism is not a disease, so "the framing of autistic characteristics and behaviours as ‘symptoms’ is misleading, harmful and helps nobody." Instead, others should strive to understand autistic experiences and proceed accordingly. From @fergus.oolong.co.uk:

Just shared some thoughts on LinkedIn about rethinking trauma-informed approaches for autistic adults.

Drawing from both sides of the therapy room - an ex-MSW diagnosed autistic at 63.

Some thoughts on trauma, treatment and autism
I need to run some ideas by autism researchers and professionals here on LinkedIn. I may have a useful view on working with autistic adults.

My reading: I love this fantastic, well written book by #drlukebeardon exploring the complexity and variety of autistic experience and challenging the disorder classification of Autism. Definitely a book that I will refer to time after time.

Headphones help.
They’re not escape, but shelter.
They hold the world at arm’s length — just long enough to breathe.

Just because I am disabled does not mean I have to be pathologised. Disability is something done to me, not a problem with my self.

I am an Autistic person. I cannot locate "autism" anywhere inside of me. It is who I am and there is nothing wrong with that. (if you are Autistic and you prefer being called a person with autism then that is your choice).

[cracks knuckles in AuDHD podcaster] probably anything but 100% Batman, Care Bears, the muppets, and Steven universe. Like stopping at an hour would be the real challenge I’m so srs.
10. If someone grabbed you out of your chair right now and said you have to give a one hour speech on any topic of your choice as long as it was informative and they would pay you 10 million, what would your speech be about?

& probably until 11:15 am to close it because I couldn't face the brain scrambling effect it has on me.

I then sat & tried to do it again....but I have not re-opened the form. This evening I will tell myself off for how unproductive my day has been.
