No. One of the good things about the way the UK legislation works is that discrimination is allowed if it's a reasonable & proportionate means to a legit aim, so what is legal may not be symmetrical. This means the legality of a BAME-only service doesn't imply a whites-only one would be legal.

Some know I have hesitated to call myself an organizer, as it reminds me of the Accessibility Services' Director telling me I could be an activist in my spare time outside of work, which eventually pushed me out the fucking UofT door, but now that I am on 3 Organizer lists, maybe I will accept it! 🥹

This is awful. I remember going to their first pop-up event in London back in 2018 and seeing so many people there — BAME families and readers — being excited of all the books there and celebrating the publisher.

It's worth noting - regarding Handsworth, for example - which holds 88-90% BAME, and over 5000 temporary accomodations, that infant mortality is 6 deaths per 1000, compared to the national average of 4 deaths per thousand.
