A deep sky astrophotograph imaged on 10/17/25 as Comet C2025 R2 Swan passed though the same field of view as the Eagle nebula M16 upper right, and the Swan (or Omega) nebula M17 lower left. This comet is currently not displaying any characteristic tail so only the green head of the comet is visible. Photographed in bortle 7 skies with a OMDS OM-1 full spectrum camera, STC Optics MS Astro filter, OMDS 50-200/2.8 lens at 186mm, f4, Skywatcher SA-2i mount. 109 frames at 25 sec., iso1000. Processed in Siril, finished in Photoshop.

Alt text: Text describes C20, also known as the North American Nebula, located about 1,800 light-years away in the Cygnus constellation. The nebula is an emission nebula. The observer captured around 400 one-minute exposures using a dual-band filter that isolates Hα (656.3 nm), OIII (500.7 nm), and Hβ (486 nm) wavelengths. This setup records only light from hydrogen alpha, hydrogen beta, and oxygen III emissions over 6.5 hours of total viewing. A dense star field in deep space with countless white stars scattered across a dark sky. Nebulous clouds of reddish-brown gas and dust weave through the scene, creating bright and dark regions with subtle texture. Some areas are more heavily populated with stars, while dark patches indicate interstellar dust blocking starlight. The image has a cosmic, ethereal quality, showcasing the vastness of the Milky Way. This is C20 (Caldwell) or the "North American Nebula", ~1,800 light-years away, in the Cygnus constellation. It's an emission nebula I shot ~400 images of at 60 seconds apiece with a dual-band filter that allows only Hα (656.3nm), OIII (500.7nm), and Hβ (486nm) light. This means only light emitted by hydrogen alpha and beta, and oxygen 3 was captured by my scope across 6.5 hours of viewing.

A deep space astrophotograph of the Elephant Trunk Nebula, catalog IC1396. This image uses 120 x 5 minute exposures gathered over three nights in the not very dark skies of Savannah, GA and during a 90% moon. The use of narrowband filtration isolates the glowing red hydrogen and blue oxygen gasses, while also cutting out much of the moonlight and light pollution. IC 1396 is a very large object but hard to see visually compared to what the filtered camera can capture.

A close up monochrome photo of our Moon. Only roughly half the Moon is in this frame because I was interested by one prominent crater called "Tycho" (Named for a famous historical Danish astronomer, Tycho Brahe from the 16th century). His crater is not the largest in this image. It sits just a little to the right of center, and has very extensive light toned rays of ejected material from the initial impact creation of it. A bright central peak can be seen dead center of the crater. The entire image encompasses a broad area of the Southern part of the Moon. To the left of Tycho are several large dark circular areas known as "Mare", or "Seas". They are ancient impact basins filled with ancient solidified lava flows. Across the entire surface of the Moon in the image, there are impact craters visible, some overlapping others. Some quite large, others very small. The lower part of the image shows some of that part of the Moon in shadow, with leading edges of craters highlighted, and contrasting with portions of their crater walls casting dark shadows into the craters, and the opposite crater edges sunlit, and the trailing edges casting shadows. Some craters have central peaks, and others do not. The background sky is black from strong contrast with the lunar surface.

An annotated image next to the unlabeled close up of the very close conjunction between Venus and Jupiter on the morning of 8-12-25. Jupiter is a bit smaller and dimmer just right of top center in the image. Venus is Bottom Center left. The Annotation for Jupiter includes, from left to right, the Galilean (Discovered by Galileo in 1610 CE) Moons, Callisto (Then Jupiter), Io, Europa, and Ganymede. And a small star in the background is also noted as "HD 51747 1344 light years away". Venus is simply noted as "Venus". All the fonts are red, and Jupiter and it's moons have a red line from the text to the objects in question. Venus has no red line to clarify it's position since it is by itself. The annotated version has a red line around the entire image. A pair of images of the conjunction between our Moon and the planet Saturn. The Moon is at upper right, and is over exposed, with no surface detail, so that Saturn is visible in the same image. Saturn is at lower left. The annotation reads: "Over Exposed Moon" under the Moon's image, and "Very far away Saturn" over a red circle denoting Saturn's position. All the fonts are red, as is the circle around Saturn. Saturn's rings are not visible at this level of magnification. The annotated version has a red line around it. A close up image of our Moon in a waning gibbous phase (Between Full phase and 3/4 full). Also taken on the morning of 8-12-25. Many craters are visible along the right side of the Moon where the shadow is advancing after being at Full Moon phase. Large dark, roughly circular areas known as "mare" (or "seas") dominate a large portion of the visible surface. They are places filled with ancient cooled lunar lava. Several large craters with bright rays of ejected material are visible. The background of space is black from high contrast with the bright surface of the Moon.

A camera phone image of a building before dawn, with two shining points of light right over it. The dimmer of the two, above the bright one is Jupiter. The brighter one is Venus. Two planets this close together visually is called a conjunction. This one is exceptional because they are so close. In the fairgrounds is an empty parking lot with a row of hedge all the way from left to right. Two small trees break up the line of hedges. The sky is a deep blue with a mild gradient toward a lighter blue lower in the sky near the top of the building. The rest of the sky is fairly featureless except for one star high in the frame. A pre dawn camera phone photo of an over exposed Moon, and a bright point just below and to its left. That bright point is the planet Saturn. The rings are not visible at this very low magnification. Features on the moon are washed out by it's brightness in this exposure. The sky is a deep dark blue. Below The sky are several tree tops barely lit.
