Ethiopia: Parts of the Amhara region have closed major roads and limited vehicle movement including roads that connect the regional capital Bahirdar to Gondar, Dessie city to Woldya city & Debre Berhan to Dessie city under the emergency declaration of the Central Security Command & ongoing conflict.

Left Gondar & drove a few hours south to #BahirDar #Ethiopia so we could see the Blue Nile Falls. The Amharic name is Tis Abay, which means great smoke ✈️🗺️

Ethiopia: Last night government forces and Fano militants clash in Bahirdar city, Amhara region. The shooting occurs near the regional TV station, Mululem Conference Hall, and the exit to Gondar. No more gunfire reported in the morning, but transport services are suspended in and out of the city.

Another thing to do in #BahirDar #Ethiopia is take a boat trip on Lake Tana, which is the source of the Blue Nile. We headed to the Zege peninsula and saw a couple of monasteries before trying to spot hippos. Unfortunately, they’re only around when the water level is low…bummer! ✈️🗺️

Ethiopia: Tibebe Gion Specialized Hospital in Bahirdar, Amhara region has partially shut down due to rising insecurity. Staff fear for their safety after multiple robberies, including one last week where 8 people were targeted. The hospital is only providing emergency services.
