A delayed Volunteer work Party season, but it kicked off this morn @WestMidBirdClub Belvide Reserve, Staffs with 16 souls turning out. A lot of willow regrowth cut .. here Mike, Kevin & I worked in the main Scott Hide Reedbed to clear some stubborn regrowth. A nice 2-3hrs ‘willow workout’! 🤪👍🏻

After the thrill of the Belvide White-rumped Sand flock on Sat it was a rather more routine (previous stomping ground) ✅ Whooper Swan at Gailey Reservoirs. Found by @thesnapper1978.bsky.social late on Sat it was still present in the fog with 11 Mutes on the sailing reservoir yday

Managed to get onto the flock of 8 White-rumped Sandpipers at Belvide yesterday evening before they flew out east. An amazing regional record that I can’t see ever being beaten. Thanks to @belvidebirding.bsky.social for getting the news out so quickly.

After painfully dipping Needletail in Yorkshire yesterday afternoon + then the Leach's Petrel this morning at Blithfield, it was a relief to catch up with the astonishing flock of 8 White-rumped Sandpiper at Belvide Reservoir late afternoon before they flew east - hope they are relocated elsewhere

Gorgeous Grey Phalarope, early morn, in habitat @westmidbirdclub.bsky.social Belvide Reserve, Staffs. UK. The first time I’ve ever seen the species out of the water. The mind ‘boggles’ where it will be wintering in a few weeks… middle of the Ocean? 😌 🦉 #Birds #BIRDING #Birdphotography #UKBIRDING

Many thanks to the 20 sites who participated in yesterday's #westmidsalldayer - 4 sites managed to break the 100 mark with Blithfield narrowly pipping Belvide to the post. I'll pull together a list of all the species seen across the sites (usually c140 species). Well done all 👏

Yesterday morning at Belvide for the Grey Phalarope. It felt correct after a series of dips, although the Phal remained quite distant throughout my visit.
Also one of the Lesser Scaup, 8 GWE, 2 Greenshank & a juv Peregrine causing havoc. Missed the Glossy Ibis.

You should visit Belvide (Staffs) on wet day in May. Estimates of up to 3000 taking non-biting midges. Birds flying low over the dam will part your hair!
One of about 40 common swifts at Ty’n y Groes, Conwy yesterday. Probably the most swifts I’ve seen at one time in the UK ever. A fantastic experience.

@westmidbirdclub.bsky.social Belvide Reserve, Staffs, Volunteer Work Party dates for the Aut/Winter. We’ve a lot of willow scrub to cut back this season, so all ‘hands on deck’ required. Make friends, meet other club members, get some exercise and have a good laugh! 😀👍

Now yesterday, news came in of 8 White rumped sandpipers at Belvide. 20 mins away, very local patch. Brain went hmm, but there's lots of willows there too, might be pastorella, and that was the deciding factor!! No birds and no pastorella! Think moths have definitely overtaken birds by a long way! 😊

Pretty decent after work visit to Belvide. Started with close views of a fem Marsh Harrier, then a lovely pair of Garganey, ending with 3 sum plum BN Grebes. Through in 5 Ringies, a few LRP, a few Garden Wblr and plenty of Sedge Wblr. Ideal!
