Even when the crowds are quiet, the forest is alive 🍄✨

This weekend’s BioBlitz event @earthfairstore brought together local mushroom enthusiasts and community partners to celebrate the incredible fungal diversity of the Sunshine Coast. From shaggy manes to chanterelles, our region draws it all.

Well, guess what, the plant in the photo ISN'T Guichenotia micrantha. It's actually Guichenotia impudica.

We SAW micrantha, and recorded it, but now I'll have to do another post about G. impudica, and another about G. sarotes, a third species of Guichenotia we recorded during the BioBlitz.

Great volunteer opportunity with our allies at @nature.org: This Nov. 1-30, they’re organizing a San Pedro River BioBlitz. Folks can use the iNaturalist app to document species along the river, from its headwaters in Sonora to its confluence with the Gila River: ow.ly/msqb50XlgbA

I was sitting outside with my torch hoping to capture some moths for the final day of #bioblitz but instead found this little ex-bird in my pot plants pining for life, if not for the fjörds - quite dead

it’s likely only a common sparrow but made me sad…

Well. After a flurry of activity this weekend for the Great Southern BioBlitz, I have passed a new milestone - 5,000 species of life on iNaturalist.

If you had asked me a decade ago, I might have been able to name a couple of hundred if I really tried. What growth!
