psychiatrists and therapists should not be able to practice without taking at least some minimal amount of coursework that focuses on schizophrenia/bipolar/psychosis. I think it's unethical to call yourself a mental health practitioner and refuse to treat those of us with the most severe conditions

I read this article when it was published in 2023, but haven't read anything since then that disproves its general thrust: Depression, like most stuff in the brain, is poorly understood and doctors do a lot of guessing about what it is and how to fix it! (Bipolar disorder is even more of mystery.)
Depression is almost certainly much more than an imbalance of brain chemicals.

sometimes people challenge me like to suggest that my disability isn't at risk compared to intellectual or physical conditions and I always feel compelled to point out that of 6 major groups of disability targeted by the Nazis as "unworthy of life", people with schizophrenia and bipolar were a third

if I hustle I can probably put out 6 more books before I'm 65, which is roughly how long most people with bipolar end up living (statistically speaking; I may make it longer but I'm preparing myself for the possibility). I feel like that's a good amount
at times I get jealous of prose writers for being able to do it fast and then I get jealous of cartoonists who just write or just draw and have to remind myself it's okay that I dwell in a 1 book every 3-5 years schedule because that's just. how long it takes to make a 300+ pg comic by yourself haha

Gene Tierney's life was incredibly difficult, she had a daughter with severe disabilities born after she contracted German measles while pregnant, a struggle with manic depression (bipolar disorder), a suicide attempt, and a father who stole most of the money she made.

Let it be known I am actually being super brave because the last time I was on psych meds I was misdiagnosed as bipolar and given antipsychotics and it was straight up the closest I’ve ever been to actually offing myself

Incredible interview with Tim Curry, with great stuff about his development of the Dr. Frank N. Furter performance, his father's early death, his explosively bipolar mother, and surviving a stroke. I wish nothing but the best for this amazing man.

I get it, friend 🫂 I was misdiagnosed with bipolar before I got my AuDHD diagnosis. But I find that my executive dysfunction far outweighs my autistic passion and productivity. Shit’s hard, but you know yourself best regardless of what professionals say!
