Another WIP of this fic for the #BottomJayceWeek fairytale prompt!
"A long time ago," the Herald said, its voice soft as a whisper but carrying weight enough to still the air, "I answered to the name Viktor." Jayce froze, caught in the stillness of the words. His mind struggled to grasp them, as if they were a puzzle too complex to solve in an instant. He listened intently, unsure of what to make of this sudden revelation. The Herald's three faces shifted subtly, as if each was savoring the moment, each with its own expression of something like fondness — or perhaps something darker. "I was a strange man back then," it continued, its words lingering in the air like a memory that refused to fade. Jayce's brow furrowed, the faintest flicker of disbelief crossing his features. "Stranger than you are now?" At that, the Herald's three sets of teeth grinned — slow, deliberate, and unsettling in their symmetry. Each grin was different, yet each equally knowing, as if each mouth spoke a separate secret. "Far stranger," it whispered, the smile deepening in every face, and for a moment, Jayce felt the weight of something ancient settle over him - something that stretched far beyond the present. Something that was no longer human. The air around them seemed to bend with the truth of the words, as if the hall itself had been waiting for this moment.
