1. Wagons/estates are still thriving in countries w/ much more severe fuel economy standards
2. "choice" was taken away from consumers by automakers demanding a higher profit margin
3. again how is nobody at CNBC interjecting to say "the shape of a station wagon has nothing to do with fuel economy"
Sean Duffy on slashing fuel economy standards: "This rule will actually allow you to bring back the 1970s station wagon. Maybe a little wood paneling on the side. We can bring back choice to consumers."

CNBC: Trump said he saw microcars over in the Asia -- 'Why don't we have these here?' There are reasons we don't see those vehicles. Will you change the rules so they can be built and driven on highways?

DUFFY: He called me after the meeting and said, 'Let's change the rules.' We're in the process.

The market setup for the week and the rest of the year.

(CNBC Pro column free to read with email registration.)
Wall Street thinks you don‘t own enough stock. More so than usual, even.

It’s the season when business news slows, the Fed’s plan is priced in, and so the bulls’ story leans on “performance chase” logic. Works most years, didn’t in ‘24.

Did that 5% shakeout really recharge the market? New column.
December will begin with investors owning little stock. Is a year-end rally at play?
Wall Street thinks you don't own enough stock, writes CNBC's Mike Santoli.

Why?

(Maybe Comcast spinning off CNBC and other linear properties is causing programming decisions to focus on more sensational, fringe topics in addition to normal ones.)

You want to be careful in economics (as in life) with correlation and causation. So one should be skeptical of this chart showing that ADP small business hiring went negative after the tariffs were imposed. But it's worth thinking about and not dismissing as Commerce Secty Lutnick did on CNBC.
