Fantastic first step toward free transit for youth across the CRD, thanks for championing this important motion @jeremycaradonnayyj.bsky.social @davethompsonvic.bsky.social
Councillor @davethompsonvic.bsky.social and I are bringing a motion to the CRD’s Transportation Committee this week to explore Free Youth Bus Passes across the region.

This program already exists in Victoria, where 70% of 13-18 year olds use it.

Reach out to your CRD rep if you want it expanded!

The CRD shelter posted this adorable fuzzball as missing and his humans have been alerted and are delighted to go pick him up, so BERNIE is going home.

But I had to share his picture because he’s such a beautiful goofball.

John Elliff! I devoured his dissertation. Really just a fantastic and thorough piece of work, invaluable to sussing out some of the early operations of the CRD.

Is it Crime, Dissent, and the Attorney General: The Justice Department in the 1960's? I'll check it out.

Actually DND isn't the only Roleplaying game that uses the CRD and you can pick any system you want, this includes less toxic brands than WoTC.
And they're all roleplaying games! For roleplay!
Hope this helps.

Drafting the part of my book's conclusion that covers the changes in the Civil Rights Division since the 1960s today.

Writing about how Trump turned the CRD into a crusade against "anti-white bias" and "woke ideology" might have just broken me.

@ohtheurbanity.bsky.social's experience here shows a gap not many think about: so many folks in the CRD have the same problem taking transit from home or to work. That includes people who work at the airport and its business park!

The Montreal comparison is apt because it does have night service.
Oops, I didn’t explain this clearly! Lack of sleep.

The bus from Victoria drops you off at a bus exchange here. In the day there’s another bus to the airport.

But the last bus at 9:06pm does not work for a flight arriving at 9pm.

Same with our morning flight.
Victoria’s transit does not go all the way to the airport for either of our scheduled flights. You have to take a 30 minute walk, partly along roads without sidewalks.

Yes. @davethompsonvic.bsky.social accurately outlines what the CRD can do now: "leading, coordinating and cajoling."

I want to see more of this. It isn't direct control, but leadership, coordination, and open advocacy by regional districts can make a big difference.

Before coming to work, I always have breakfast at a restaurant where I usually sit down. A very tasty cup of coffee refreshes my morning.

You’re not understanding what I’m saying.

For starters, Tiny Town is owned by BC Housing, not the city. BCH has, indeed, had years to sort it out.

We wrote a formal letter to the rest of the CRD munis asking if they could find a new home for TT. They all said no, or nothing.

Still gotta wait until mid February for my complaint to be officially investigated because it seems like as soon as the new admin started every rural school district in California decided to forcibly push out their trans staff members, & now there's a massive waiting list for the CRD.

The CRD now spends much of its time on word puzzles, it seems.
"Our credible plan is also an acrostic."

(This is, genuinely, the actual Conservative press release.)

Went out to buy groceries today and like 3 people asked if my glasses were my "real glasses" or a "fashion thing"
I have a feeling this is gonna get really annoying if it becomes a trend. Bout to start handing out business cards that say "I have CRD, piss off" when people ask me that.

My next community coffee-chat will be Saturday Sept 27, 11:00am-12:00pm at North Perk, 2150 Quadra St. A new cafe and make space to check out!

Feel free to drop by and share what you’d like City Council and the CRD to do in the coming months and years. I’ll be there to listen and learn. :-)

As a reminder, Victoria currently has:

436-450 shelter beds

732 supportive housing units (with 365 more in process)

30+ EWR beds in extreme weather.

We constantly get beat up for having a homeless population, and yet we are doing it ALL.

Unhoused come from across the CRD.

I’m fighting back.

Direct one-seat transit to YYJ is something that I’m actively pushing for at the Transit Commission.

In general, yes, we will need better transit and eventually mass transit.

The CRD, city, and BC Transit are all trending in that direction.
