#CRboxes
I wish I felt hopeful but we are in the grip of right wing populist antiscience. I think we will make incremental progress and grassroots is the place to be. The best way we can bring change this year is by doing tangible things. Fundraise for clean air, build crboxes, set up mask blocks, hand out 🧵
Any predictions from you or anyone else how the 7th year of the #Covid #pandemic will unfold? With #unions on board there would be some hope of establishing #IAQ #IndoorAirQuality in workplaces (including public buildings because they are also workplaces for some). #CovidisnotOver #CovidisAirborne

Some HEPA units that filter classroom air are loud, but SO necessary to clean the air to help prevent airborne pathogen spread.
We turned this issue into a class project building PC fan #CRboxes to help filter the air in our classrooms.
Students need to learn how to measure air quality & clean it🙌

I've been exposed to flu and COVID daily at work, but my super powers are keeping me healthy👍
Never remove my Q100 in the school, use nasal sprays before and after entry, avoid large crowds whenever possible, always run #CRboxes in my classroom, doors/windows open.
December 19, 2025 at 10:28 PM
If my classroom (with PM2.5=0 all day and desktop #CRboxes spread throughout) has 10 students sick, then imagine how bad things are in all other classrooms/schools throughout Ontario.
Our children DO NOT need to get sick to get stronger.
PREVENTING illness with N95s maintains a healthy immune system

The key is to prevent illness.
How?
Iota-carrageenan nasal spray, N95 or Q100 respirator, CRboxes/HEPA filters, open windows/doors.
All work together to help prevent airborne pathogen spread.
December 8, 2025 at 10:08 PM
To prevent infection we must open windows in shared air spaces, use hepa air purifiers or crboxes. Wear an ffp2 respirator. Of course vaccinate to reduce severity, if you can access one.

Adding to this CO2 monitoring tech, the perfect venue would include whisper-quiet PC fan #CRboxes spread throughout the facility because the MERV-8s will do virtually nothing to remove PM2.5s from the indoor air.
Here is a great DIY #CRbox

Another 'Public Health' FAIL.
All advertisements re: Cold/Flu/COVID must include the importance of RESPONSIBLE socializing (including N95 use, improving ventilation by opening windows/doors, and using HEPA filters/CRboxes for improved air filtration) in public spaces.

Norfolk measles outbreak (incubation time of 21 days) will likely start to see increased +ve cases during March Break.
Bigger than the outbreak in Texas already😓

Public Health is ill-advised & are not protection the public from infection.
Their standards suck.
Public Health and medical administrators have NO IDEA how to deal with #measles. They deal with disease based on "vibes". That won't work.

We need new people to deal with this.
When faced with a capital-A Airborne community outbreak of measles Norfolk General Hospital in Ontario, Canada rolls out the same masking policy it uses for influenza and COVID-19, including maskoptional places like hallways, cafeteria, and hospital units that are not in outbreak.

They’re DIY air purifiers that are way more efficient and affordable than any HEPA filters you can buy on the market reddit.com/r/crboxes

They’re mainly used in schools but as hospitals now also stopped using masks ppl build portable ones to take to the doctor

This happened after I had already caught COVID due to lack of public health safeguards/policies & hazardous guidance.
The mechanical ventilation/filtration upgrades are NOT enough to prevent airborne pathogen spread due to crowded classrooms.
Schools are still unsafe in this respect.

If I could go back in time to speak to myself one year ago, then I would say, " You have always been doing the right thing by wearing your Q100 at work, and cleaning the indoor air with #CRboxes."
I would've also said to get a Doppler ultrasound of my neck & legs. It might have prevented my MI.

We save the most money right now by purchasing Ikea Uppatvïnd filters, and building smaller, table top #CRBoxes with 2 adjacent PC fans/filter. Very efficient for cleaning air & quieter than the big fan models (we use both, but set the large fan models on low speed due to noise)

Looking at last year's class data compared to this year's absenteeism there has been about a 30% reduction in absences.
Why?
Cleaner indoor air, more informed children willing to act to help clean their air (wear N95s), more tabletop #CRboxes.
What could boards do to help? Reduce class sizes...

Thanks to @corsiaq.bsky.social , Dr. Rosenthal, Rob Wiss & so many others, we have many amazing design ideas for #CRboxes 🙌🙌

Why not custom make them within pre-existing furniture🙌

I've been reviewing attendance statistics re: student illness for September.
There was a confirmed case of COVID reported in my classroom (never disclosed to me - I had to look it up myself😓).
Even with a +ve case in my classroom, our free N95s & desktop #CRboxes prevented rampant spread...

So so true.
COVID levels the playing field.
Doesn't matter how fit you are, or how well you eat.
COVID will still cause vascular damage to healthy individuals that can quickly become life-threatening.
I'm VERY lucky I survived my MI.
Prevent COVID infection!

If you are a person who loves being fit and healthy and toned, I can tell you that it would probably be better for you to eat a whole large pizza every single day of your life than to get long covid.

Here is our data at the end of our ~2hr tracking period.
#CRboxes assisted in consistent, effective removal of 91-93% of PM2.5 particulate even under additional stress (e.g., Outside PM2.5 ⬆️ by 7, indoor only went up 2 at the most)
CO2 ppm stayed at or below 600 ppm in the classroom.
Keep kids safe.
June 6, 2025 at 2:17 PM
Schools truly are not the safest places for children.
Why? Too many bodies in limited, indoor spaces promotes airborne pathogen spread.
Class sizes & school buses are the biggest threats to student health.
We use desktop #CRboxes in our classroom to help reduce close-contact spread to some degree...

With the Pacific Northwest in fire mode, have a reminder that masks and CR boxes and filter fans can all make breathing a little easier indoors and out! (And seriously, stay safe everyone!)

Not wanting to "win"... just an update on some #CRBoxes here in Maryland. Left: 13 of over 25 #CRBoxes built by six graders over two days at a local middle school. Right: A comparison of #CRBox used during ONE WUI fire challenge event (bottom) and a new #CRBox (top).

I've now been illness free since August 2023 due to current protocols. Due to lack of government health & safety support, I've relied heavily on the help of experts through social media.
What works?
-N95+ in all public indoor spaces
-Norizite & Viraleze together
-#CRboxes
-probiotics
-curcumin

I work with grade 6 students. Our classroom is a lab in which we learn about ON curriculum including the importance of ventilation and filtration experimentation, airborne pathogens, general health and safety, and environmental stewardship.
We build & use #CRboxes too🙌

I've never stopped wearing my Q100 & cleaning the indoor air around me.
COVID nearly killed me in January.
Its not a joke.
Prevent infection. Wear an N95 or better. Filter indoor air with #CRboxes & HEPA units.
Open windows/doors for better ventilation.
We know how to prevent infection.

Hey listen, covid is really heating up again. I know it sucks. You'll get no judgement from me if you haven't been masking, but now's the time to pull some back out.

You don't want long covid. It sucks way worse than masking.

Didn't take long from there. By Oct 2022, with the help of @robwissink.bsky.social I had constructed many, affordable, PC-fan, #CRboxes out of foamboard. They were all whisper quiet & VERY effective at removing airborne pathogens from the classroom.
