I really wanted to go to the local No Kings protest, but my husband is so sick and I’m too chicken to go alone. Cardiology called the other day to tell us that my husband’s loop recorder showed that his heart stopped for 5 seconds! WTF. We have an appointment with an Electrophysiologist soon. Ugh.

Poor aunt had 30 minutes sleep. The poor old dementing lady, sent to hospital by her care home (imagine her terror) has been loudly shouting all night on this ward. No beds in Cardiology. They’re increasing aunt’s Betablockers to stabilise heart rate more but she’s desperate to come home 1/2

it’s nice to know that no matter where you are in the world, different hospitals still can’t agree on whether echocardiograms go under Radiology → Ultrasounds or if they go under Cardiology → Studies

#Geriatrics, #Nephrology and #Endocrine - if you have pulse and an interest in specialty, unless you are literally only applying to Harvard, you will match. We are desperate for fellows, multiple slots go unfilled.
Heme/onc and cardiology, individual programs competitive, but overall, most match

Aunt’s heart rate over 180 bpm so she’s in a resus bed (conscious & not actually feeling terrible) but they can’t let it go on (risk of cardiac arrest). My guess is either strong intravenous meds or admitted to Cardiology
In the hellhole that is Derriford Hospital’s old A&E (the new one isn’t open yet)

😔

Makes me anxious when my classmates consult ChatGPT to explain concepts from radiology, cardiology…

Imagine having world-class faculty BOARDED in these subjects and a wealth of textbooks, but instead trusting an LLM to teach you concepts that WILL affect your ability to care for patients

Hot take:

You WANT the #creatinine to go up while diuresing in #cardiorenal syndrome AKI.

It’ll come back down when they’re better.

It’s a feature, not a bug.

Well, there’s been a complex issue on the Cardiology ward so the cardiologist is probably still hours away

The term “cardiac age” may be used informally or in some cardiovascular risk calculators to communicate heart health in a relatable way, but it is not standard terminology in physicals by doctors.[mc-cardiology +4]

as of 3 years ago a place i did IT at had an old sun sparcstation running the doctors viewing machine for a cardiology radioisotope scan, if that machine died it would have been nearly 7 figures to replace it.

some of my homelab is nearing 10 years old =\
costs to upgrade are too much right now.
