The Caversham aspect may be of interest to @illuminations.bsky.social, and the niche TV football history angle to @skillagesteve.bsky.social... So here is the story behind the story...

Six-and-a-half years ago, while researching something else at Caversham, I happened across a little fact and thought, "Oh, that's interesting, I must do something with that some day..."

Today is that day!

I should add that any current school staff member engaging as an inspector with the framework is making clear they believe it is effective, fair, balanced, contextually reliable and addresses all of the major concerns in the Coroner's report post-Caversham. Really?

Those dark sunglasses!! Obviously been out on a bender the night before ;)

I very much enjoyed our local (Caversham, Berkshire, UK) service... Focused on service, compassion, humanity. I glanced around and saw awkward shuffling from late middle aged folk around me. I saw they felt shame

In glorious Autumn sunshine we cleared Amersham Rd & southern offshoots, collecting 8 large/14 small bags of litter, finding wrappers so old they could be archaeological! See future rubbish events on the rubbish website:

British Rowing cleared to redevelop Sherriff’s Boathouse and add a new one at Redgrave Pinsent Lake in Caversham, despite council objections over increased road traffic. Facilities for world-class rowers to be modernised. Will be great to see it in action.

I’ve always had that cosy daydream of farm life so I was super giddy when we were at the farm show in Caversham.
This may sound obvious but what I didn’t expect, was the texture was literally like a giant nipple 🤔
The cow took the biggest piss after this tho 💀💀💀

There's a pair of Christmas workshops coming to the Angel Bar in Caversham this month where you can create your own baubles (while enjoying a bottomless brunch) and/or wreath (while enjoying a glass of fizz & a mince pie)

Christmas is, of course, what you make it!

Easily grown from seed, but requires good drainage and a dry, frost-free climate. It is used for bonsai, and suburban street trees.

Either way I think there is an extremely strong case NOT to have the BBC Written Archive in Caversham, under the management of the BBC.
There is another, possibly better, way round this - British Library.

London building right beside stations going to/coming from north and, unlike the NA, a building in the north of England - Wetherby in Yorkshire.

Much easier to access than going to Caversham.
The BBC archive should go to the National Archive. The NA is far more democratic in its viewing criteria and, because it's in London (just about), it's easier to get to.

Another pointer, if I may, to my contribution to The Conversation, arguing against the profoundly problematic changes to access for researchers at the BBC Written Archives Centre.

Out of interest we wondered how active football clubs are on Bluesky and got a bit carried away.

So for a bit of fun in our close season...the inaugural women's Bluesky World League.

All these teams deserve a follow (handles in alt-text) 👏👏👏

Most of Caversham, no? The bit with the gardens sloping down to the Thames especially. (Whitley v different iirc - it was my route to work when I first moved to Reading - from the back of Costco where I lived, up to Campus...)

Did you mean Caversham Heights? There might be some there but I actually live in Whitley!

Spot on comrade. I have spent some of the happiest research days of my life at Caversham. You can't monetise the long term value of that. Under the new guidelines, without current academic or publisher tenure I don't think I'd get in.
