ChessBase '26, Mega Database 2026, and Correspondence Database 2026 are out!
Today, ChessBase is offering a 25% discount.
For me, living in the USA, my three upgrades totaled $250.

I am not even a dedicated amateur. I go through phases. I don't need it at all. I am also a loyal TWIC user. I've used SCID. The substitutes are extremely viable for my use cases. And yet every two years I shell out for the upgrade

In fairness: ChessBase 18 was actually a pretty major upgrade

Saw a vanishing post about install time, and had to say that I recently updated a major database and ChessBase narrowly beat its predicted 50 hours of processing...

chessbase 26 unboxing: intensive expectations management from the new desktop icon

I haven’t used Chessbase for maybe 15 years? I don’t remember it hallucinating much last time I used it.

I dunno, gang. Might not be pre-ordering for the 20% discount this time

The new Chessbase is jumping from version 18 to version '26. Release notes are like, new, opening report, you can prepare for your opponents, and something something club players too

counting on you @anishgiri.bsky.social

Why is Grob's Attack named after Henri Grob?
In the ChessBase Database, he has no games with White starting with 1.g4.

That's because he played lots of correspondence games featuring the Grob. Out of 121 games with White, 118 start with 1.g4.

It's also because he published Grob's Angriff in 1942.

It's easy to cheat, I face it every week on Chessbase. You can almost always tell based on probabilities that someone with that rating would certain moves.

Genuinely excited to see what @anishgiri.bsky.social does with this. Chessbase needs competition. There are many products with serviceable parts -- the now defunct Chess Position Trainer, last updated about a decade ago -- is perhaps the best.

Something to handle transpositions please Anish sir!

@simaginfan.bsky.social I saw the mystery photo in your latest post and couldn't help myself. Chessbase has a plausible sounding caption: "Portisch and Petrosian flanking Arbiter Armin Heintze, Candidates’ Match 1974 | Photo: Chess Life & Review, May 1974"
