I remember first playing Civ2 when I was home sick from school when I was around seven or eight. I rented it from a local video rental it was that long ago. played it all week, it was real special because my parents moved one of the TVs into my room.

agree that it's never been shown he had a higher propensity to nuke you, it was just funnier so people remember, but it was a forum meme in the civ2/3 era, long long before tvtropes

There's an open source version of old civ 1 and 2 called freeciv, unfortunately the actual civ2 is a 16-bit program and so no one has bothered to port it and resell it on steam or whatever.

I remember back in post student 90s we somehow managed to get a handed down PC laptop, colour screen, maybe a 386 if memory serves?
It would play Civ2 moderately well until the the endgame and the hours I lost just sitting on the couch, wasted, keyboarding away.
