Day 2106 #ArtKicksCovid19 “Still Life with Oysters, a Silver Tazza and Glassware” (1635) Willem Claesz Heda. Metropolitan Museum of Art New York City. This painting is typical of Heda's work in the mid-1630s. On the left, empty oyster shells rest in front of a plate of oysters yet to be consumed.

Experimentation: now adding some pretty great porcelain to the table in 1638. By Willem Claesz. Heda, on his birthday.

Willem Claesz. Heda thinks, still life is getting boring. I know, I'll put table in front of a classical landscape! Then thinks, oops, bad idea. Does not finish painting.

2/2 Wonderful mixtures of the ordinary and the extraordinary on tables of Willem Claesz. Heda of Haarlem.

Golden cup complements a simple yet disordered table in 1635, as arranged by Willem Claesz. Heda. He was born on this day in 1593.

Blackberry pie for breakfast. But the broken glass is not appealing. Time is passing for Willem Claesz. Heda, born OTD 1593.

2/2 Another fine crab lunch with, of course, the trademark peeled lemon. Because it’s by Willem Claesz Heda, on his birthday.

And for lunch we have... a crab! With salt, pepper, lemon, & wine. Excellent. Love how plates are precariously balanced at edge of table by Willem Claesz. Heda, #BTD in 1593.

3/3 Theme and variation, 1635: overturned tazza, broken glass, lemon & pepper w/ the oysters. Willem Claesz. Heda, slightly obsessive. Today is his day.

2/2 Early & deceptively simple still life by Willem Claesz Heda, born OTD 1594. Already doing the lemon peel thing, although not so expertly as in later works. Inlaid knife handle would also be a favorite.

I fell in love with one of his paintings and got a print from the Rijksmuseum.

Born on this day in 1593, in Haarlem, Willem Claesz. Heda. Painter of things on tables. Sometimes, as here in 1635, tipped, cracked, & broken. Also master of the well-peeled lemon.
