#Clavinet
Remembering John Miles today on the fourth anniversary of his death.😢 A lovely guy who I met back in 79. We were in a nightclub in Finland and when the DJ put this on, he started throwing ice cubes at him 🤣 This TOTP vid features my mate Gary Moberley on funky clavinet! youtu.be/gj3wnMREOcM?...

Staying on the 80s jazz fusion tip. This time with Herbie Hancock from his 1980 album Mr. Hands. Jaco Pastorius on bass. Herbie was on the Moog, mini-moog, vocoder, and clavinet doing the damn the thing.

Fun fact: “Higher Ground” was recorded in one take. Stevie said in an interview: “I played the drums, the bass on the Moog with my left hand, the clavinet with my right hand, and I sang at the same time. Everything was done live.”

On this day in 1972, Stevie Wonder released “Superstition.” Funk, clavinet, and pure genius combined on a track that made the world move and groove. Still one of music’s most magical moments.

Ok the strings showed up on the last track but they were fine. My bigger concern is that there is perhaps *too much* clavinet on this record. I never thought I’d say it but this might be Peak Clav

...MORE COWBELL!  #HerbieHancock (Fender Rhodes, Clavinet, Synths), Bennie Maupin (sax), Paul Jackson (bass), Mike Clark (drums). #jazzsky #jazzfunk

btw, I have the original 1974 vinyl of Thrust with this cover art version...which is _much_ better than the more ubiquitous one in the YouTube vids:

Since there’s no right or wrong anymore, and the moral high ground was destroyed by a catastrophe, I’m starting to become more comfortable with the idea of starting a go-fund-me for a Clavinet.

Stevie Wonder - Superstition- 1972

That clavinet opening is iconic and the whole thing just blows me away - especially the live one from Sesame Street

The clavinet intro to "Superstition" might be the greatest sound put to record.
May 14, 2025 at 4:56 PM
I’m guessing they didn’t have a clavinet player, yes?

I think it’s probably best to just steer clear of covering ANY of Stevie’s stuff. It can only ever be inferior.

"the demolition guitar funk of “Superstition,” No, that's a Hohner Clavinet keyboard on the main riff/groove.
