this idea that your bestie is in a more intimate but nonsexual relationship with you that supersedes that of your spouse is not only insane to me but has GOT to tie into both comphet and the "you can't be friends with the gender you're attracted to" thing.

she rly does not understand the appeal of taller women to ashley brain and given shes shorter than me, it makes me wonder if shes doing comphet the way she is BECAUSE she so short and cant be taller then someone else
my mother does not seem to understand that i am in fact a product of her atrocious and neglectful parenting methods and sub 5 foot genetics, and thus i am both mentally and physically grabbable by taller women, and to her HORROR want this to occur

Much of what is thought of as misery in lesbian fiction is all about the misery of homophobia and corrective SA and comphet, and while that can be part of it, 'toxic yuri' is about the narrative agency of lesbian characters--the liberty to be, as it were, as awful as any fictional straight woman.

the show works on many levels but the most impressive is that it's simultaneously a ridiculous melodrama and an exploration of the very real way in which gay men sometimes struggle to overcome comphet and realize that they're gay even when they have to imagine other men to get it up for a sexy lady

As an aroace, I can totally see where your head canon comes from! Kind of like how there's a surprising amount of overlap between the unaware / closeted bi experience & ace experience, it's not a stretch to envision parallels between being panromantic & aromantic in a comphet world.
