All stories are fundamentally trying to say something about us, about life - the meaningful ones in any case. But stories are meant to encourage questions, pondering, contemplation.
To distil all of it down to a self-help manual, or some form of packaged wisdom is reductive and often infantile (1)

There is a cursed phrase that has haunted me since I first saw it. It stands like a brooding obelisk in my thoughts, its surface oily and black, reflecting no light. It resists contemplation: it is only that which it is.

Fatness immediately, w/o requiring contemplation, becoming a point of ridicule when you decide you don’t like someone will always be a tell.
