I had no idea frog was such a popular menu item in some Asian countries. I went down the rabbit hole after spotlighting one of Asia's frog species last night for #CritterXmasEve They actually farm them?! See? This is why I love posting about animals.... learn so many new things every day!

Good Christmas morning critters & humans alike! Hope everyone enjoyed #CritterXmasEve as much as I did. Should I do it for a 3rd year in 2026?? It lets me learn about the wildlife of the world too. I will work on being more organized next year for sure.

OK so the Howler monkey alarm was not enough to wake me up.... (you know I'm tired when.....) So I'm wrapping up my 2nd annual #CritterXmasEve

Santa has just been to Bolivia and boy did he trigger quite the alarm!

Black Howler monkeys are one of the loudest animals in the world! You can hear their "howls" up to 2 kilometers away!!!

It's hard to sneak up on fill stockings with an alarm system like that! Nice try, Santa!

Santa is approaching the island of Puerto Rico!!!

The Puerto Rican Boas will be happy to wake up to stockings full of rats!

Santa doesn't have to worry about their venom because they are non-venemous and actually constrictors!

Santa is headed towards Prince Edward Island, Canada now!

He has plenty of voles and frogs to slip into the stockings of the Red Foxes on the island.

Did you know the Red Fox is the provincial animal of Prince Edward Island? It's true!

Santa is on his way to Newfoundland, Canada!

First stop will be to the Snowy Owls to fill their stockings with Lemmings!

The Beluga Whales are using their fantastic echolocation skills to "listen" for his approach!

Go to bed Belugas or there will be no shrimp, cod or halibut for you!!

Listen! Do you hear that?

Santa has been trekking through the Atlantic Forest looking to fill the stockings of the iconic Golden-Lion Tamarins!

These primates eat lots of different fruits and insects so Santa better fill them stockings good!

Santa made a stop in Palmer Station, Antarctica to see the Adelie Penguins!!!

He filled their stockings to the brim with lots of krill, small fish & squid!

Santa was just seen in Natal, Brazil!

He left some treats for the Neotropical Lava Lizards which call the area home! Ants, Beetles & Grasshoppers please, Santa!

These guys eat so many different kinds of bugs that it helps control insect populations! Yay, Lava Lizards!

Santa just delivered lots of goodies to the wildlife on the islands of Majorca!

Check out this little critter. This is the Majorcan Midwife Toad (err frog) it is endemic to the region.

The males are superdads and always carry developing eggs during breeding season!

Look who Santa encountered while in France!

This is the Mediterranean Mantis and isn't she gorgeous?!

She's known for 2 distinct behaviors: cannibalism and threat displays (photo I chose shows this amazing behavior!)

Santa is has cruised through Norway!

He has plenty of goodies for the European Polecat's stockings. A few amphibians, maybe?

You will find this mustelid throughout Europe and past/present/future threats include hunting for their fur.
