Reminded of this anniversary by Dan. The Aarhus raid was filmed from a camera plane piloted by Flight Lieutenant Hanafin DFC. I think the target is glimpsed at about 12 seconds. A running figure in the street is seen at around 15 seconds.

No idea where this is, but let me tell you this stream has soooo many stickleback in it.
The stream featured in the opening shot of this video. It is a slow moving dystrophic stream opening into a pond. The stream is surrounded by freshwater marsh and mixed conifer forest. Probably Koppen climate zone Dfb or Dfc.

#OTD in 1941 the DFC for Wg Cdr Yaxley was gazetted for the contribution his squadron's Beaufighter detachment made in ensuring the (mostly) safe arrival of the HALBERD convoy into Malta.

On return to North Africa he commanded the squadron during CRUSADER, again earning a decoration.

21 year old F/O John Drummond DFC, later found to have been wounded in the leg and arm, baled out too low following the collision and his parachute failed to open properly. Still alive when reached by a local priest, he was given the last rites before dying in his arms.
