WTF are you thinking? Google Iran Contra which gave us Oliver North. Or the War on Drugs that has destabilized Central and South America without actually doing anything about drugs. Or the complete gutting of safety nets. Or the exploding deficits and trickle down economics. He was a MONSTER

NOPE

Reagan's tax cuts, combined with increased defense spending & cuts to other programs, significantly increased the U.S. national debt, causing it to triple during his 2 terms as the annual deficits soared, marking a shift in U.S. fiscal policy with lasting impacts.

It’s been said a lot but for example our oil rich province in Canada is expecting big deficits due to the price being $25 less a barrel, so imo honestly the Venezuela stuff may be BECAUSE they won’t see a terrible spike.

That dickhead is going to get Americans on American soil killed.

His actions are repeatedly demonstrating severe cognitive deficits, continuing to ignore such behavior is putting not only the American ppl at risk, but other countries.

Interesting how a delay in return to surplus appears to be correlated with increasing deficits

Of course it may be his deficits in English in play as well

trump just now
"Numbers recently released show that TARIFFS have reduced the Trade Deficit of the United States by more than half. This is larger than anyone, except ME, projected."

He's full of shit
Trade deficits are inherently neither good or bad. Depends on other underlying economic conditions.
December 17, 2025 at 12:26 AM
Maybe it did. But you don't get Trump 1.0 without 1) inheriting six years of growth from Obama, and 2) adding trillions in deficits via tax cuts that haven't come close to paying for themselves.

Trump basically put the nation's future on credit and handed future generations the bill.

I love how he keeps saying this like trade deficits have a meaningful impact on the economy.

Two things: That's a lie and well no shit genius. Trade deficits will always decrease when other countries BUY LESS SHIT FROM US. This idiot has the nuclear codes.

I honestly don't understand what folks mean by "right," "left," "conservative" and "liberal."
I want a smaller government (➡) but also want it to abide by our Constitution (⬅). I want fiscal responsibility (➡?) but only Clinton has balanced the budget in my lifetime (ALL OTHERS RAN DEFICITS, and the

I think a problem we have is the idea that education starts when young and ends at the "good enough to be put to work" ages (consider the ages at which kids can choose to drop out of school)

I'll educators about it but I would think assuming everyone's schooling has deficits would b a good approach

Since WW II, economic metrics like job creation, GDP growth, stock market ,income growth, & corporate profits, US economy is better under Democrats. Budget deficits are lower. 10of 11 recessions began under Repubs.Statistically high GDP growth, unemployment, stock market & job creation goes up.

Like even if you accept the premise on... again take your pick immigrants, trans people, trade deficits, NATO, Epstein, this doesn't square with any of that. It's just Trump being an asshole about someone they like and have liked since they were kids.

LNP/Frydenberg’s last budget forecasted TEN years of major deficits. His stated heroes/economic pin-ups were Reagan & Thatcher. Both administered rising deficits.
Deficits/debt as THE indicator of good govt is an LNP, conservative notion. For decades, Surplus’s are extremely rare in OECD countries.
December 16, 2025 at 10:54 PM
Their problem is what they end up doing now is irrelevant. Americans with near 100% certainty identify the Dems with making health care more affordable and Repubs with the opposite. It's baked in. In reverse, unfortunately and inaccurately, the same is true of deficits.

to pay the Debts & provide for the common Defence & general Welfare" & "to borrow Money on the credit of the United States."

This permits taxation & borrowing but does not mandate that spending precede taxes or loans; deficits have been routine since the 19th century.

And so the “We’re the party of ordinary working people” mask slips further. Oh and reducing the minimum wage, privatising the NHS, scrapping Net Zero targets and ”slashing wasteful government spending”- unspecified. The IFS predicted higher government deficits if the Reform manifesto was enacted.

@marcdaalder.bsky.social - Govt deficits ought to have something to show for them, right? - the point of govt spending is to fuel prosperity. Whereas all chasing a 'surplus' is going to do is fuel austerity - QED.
Can you explain why a deficit is bad? Esp when govt is a currency-issuer?
